Story: Lurline Queen and Kumbric Witch

Summary:

Some stories get told and retold, but never get rightly said in the telling and re-telling. This tale is the untold story of two witches: one called good and the other called wicked. And what people don't know from the stories that have been have told is that these two witches loved one another, and their love was good and their love was wicked...

Notes: PREFACE: This story was inspired by the musical Wicked, which is an adaptation of Gregory Maguire's book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West-which in turn is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. While I'm not particularly fond of any of these three stories, a scene between Elphaba and Galinda in the musical (originally the Wicked Witch of the East and the Good Witch of the South in the source novel) led to the idea of a "yurified" retelling of the story. It's turning out to be an enormous challenge doing an adaptation of an adaptation of an adaptation. Not only do I have to construct a plausible romance where none previously existed-I also have to do it while remaining relatively faithful to the elements and themes already established by the previous storylines. While I have the main outline sketched out, this is still very much a work in progress, and I hope the reader bears with me as I slowly allow the story to unfold. WARNINGS: The story will contain spoilers to all three source narratives mentioned above. That is, it will allude to the events and endings of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Gregory Maguire's Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and the musical Wicked. For readers who are unfamiliar with any of the three stories mentioned above, and who don't mind having their endings spoiled, I do recommend that you look up the basic themes and plotlines of the narratives mentioned as the story below assumes a certain level of familiarity with the mythology of Oz. DISCLAIMER: Almost all of the characters and locations mentioned below are based loosely on the characters and locations originally created by L. Frank Baum and Gregory Maguire. Very few, if any (at least for now) are of my own invention.
