Chapter 1

Title: Prologue

A/N: For a long time I've been fascinated by Parasite Eve for some inexplicable reason and I've wanted to write the whole story into a femslash fanfiction, so here it is. There are few things I had to change for my story but I tried to keep faithful to the original game as much as possible. I hope you'll enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Parasite Eve or Parasite Eve 2, they belong to absolutely fabulous game creator company, SQUARESOFT trademark of Square Co., Ltd. Thanks for making awesome games.

Aya Brea's deviant life

1. Prologue

A/N: Those who are familiar with the game might want to skip this chapter, I just explain few things.

NMC (stands for Neo-Mitochondria Creature) is an organism, which mitochondria differs from normal. Mitochondria are the parts in cells, which are responsible for the cell power (ATP) production. They exist in nearly every living thing, including humans. Long long time ago mitochondria were independent organisms, but then they became parasites. Cells either absorbed the mitochondria or mitochondria deliberately became parasites and entered cells. They live in symbiosis with the cell in its core. Mitochondria's chromosomes are different from its host.

Mostly mitochondria are harmless but problems arose when they become conscious. These are called neo-mitochondria. When they get inside an organism, human or animal, host turns into best possible life form (that is what the neo mitochondria thinks is the best), which usually is some kind of beast called neo-mitochondria creature. Usually these new life forms are violent and look like a mixture of humans and animals. NMC has own consciousness, which usually overtakes the host's consciousness. When this happens it cannot be undone. This is when the NMC hunters come into play.

There are some people whose body and mind haven't been overtaken by NMC. These people have started to live in symbiosis with their neo-mitochondria, just like our ancestors ages ago. Aya Brea is one of these people. She stays young because of her mitochondria and she is really strong and her senses are way better than average person's. Aya also has different kinds of mitochondria powers, which she can use for offence or defence. Even though Aya has neo-mitochondria within her she has dedicated her life for fighting against these creatures wanting to change the whole world into mindless beasts controlled by creed and insane people. Welcome to take part in this war for the sake of all humanity.

Chapter 2

Title: Nightmares

2. Nightmares

Monday, September 4th 2000, 4.30 a.m.
Aya Brea's apartment, Los Angeles

Aya Brea woke up gasping for air, cold sweat covering her body. Aya had, once again, seen a nightmare about her twin sister, Maya, who had died years ago. Aya wiped away the sweat from her forehead and looked around; she didn't see everything clearly, but still much better than an average person could, thanks to her neo-mitochondria. It took a moment before she was able to shake off the nightmare's grip.

Aya sat for a moment on her bed before she got up; she was sure that she couldn't get more sleep in that night because of the nightmare. Aya stood up and shivered a bit as her bare feet touched the cold flagstone floor. She walked across the floor ignoring the uncomfortable sensation and put the lights on. She looked in the mirror, her chin long, blonde hair was a bit messy and her blue eyes looked a bit tired but it didn't matter, she didn't need as much rest as others and she could sleep properly after work. Her Asian facial features were easily seen on her sleepy face.

Aya's apartment wasn't huge. On the contrary it had only two rooms and a kitchen. It was located in the suburb area of Los Angeles. Her apartment wasn't like she had hoped for all her life; she would like to have her own house someday, however, a little bit further from the city. But for now her job demanded her to stay near the center of the city. Someday, when she would hopefully have girlfriend or wife she would retire her dangerous job, re-educate and buy the house of her dreams.

The apartment Aya had now was the best possible for the moment. She had decorated it in Japanese style. There were, beside the basic equipments (like sofa, bed, televison, stereo, household appliances etc.), things that Aya found fascinating like paintings and Japanese ornaments, for remindement of her mother and sister. Aya's father, however, was an American journalist who she hadn't seen since she was a small child. After the car accident that had cost her mother and sisters lives when Aya was fourteen, she had grown up in a foster home in her home city, Boston. It all had taught her will and skill to survive but it also left some scarves. However, Aya had managed to recover from the trauma and after high school she started to study criminology at the University of Massachuttes, ending up as a police officer in New York.

Aya stepped into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of ice-cold water. The kitchen had just been renowed and everything was shining new. Being an FBI agent gave you quite a nice salary added with the hunter bonus after every killed NMC. Even if she had to buy her own equipments, she still earned nicely and had managed to organise herself a rather nice new life. Still at times her past life came to haunt her, like it had in this night.

Aya noticed that the glass in her hand was shaking slightly. Quickly she drank it all and forced herself to calm down a bit. Her work was really stressing and even in her home she couldn't entirely forget her job and she was always vigilant. Her lonely home just reinforced those feelings. She rarely saw any nightmares, but these were definitely the worst kinds of. Her thoughts drifted once again in the past against her will. This time she thought about New York Blockade Incident that had taken place in 1997. The public thought it was just a normal, tragic incident, but Aya knew better because she had been there. It was the first time NMCs had appeared. It was the first time Aya's own neo-mitochondria had awoken. It was the first time the Mitochondria-Eve had been born to give birth to the Ultimate Being, which Aya had killed in the end. The thought still made herl shiver. It had been so close that those things had took over every person on this planet.

Back then Aya had just been a rookie police officer, but after the NY incident she had resigned. Due many different events, Aya ended up working in the FBI's MIST (Mitochondrian Investigation and Suppression Team) unit. She moved from New York to Los Angeles, as well as the creatures spread slowly to the west though their numbers were decreasing. That job certainly suited for Aya because of her mitochondria powers; she was able to fight the creatures even without guns, though she usually kept them with her for a backup and because there was a limitation how much she could use her powers without drying up. But her powers also had their downsides, they isolated her even more from normal people. Her social life was a joke and her only friends were also working in the MIST.
Most ironic in the whole thing was the fact that both, Aya and Mitochondria-Eve, had gotten their neo-mitochondria from Aya's twin sister Maya. It had been transferred into Aya during her corneal transplant after the tragic car accident. Mitochondria-Eve (who had been, before the transformation, a singer called Melissa Pearce) had attained it in liver transplant in the same time. However it couldn't take over Aya's body, like it had Melissa's, due Aya's evolved cell nuclei. It had formed a symbiotic relationship with Aya, granting her mitochondria powers and ever youth. She was twenty-seven but looked like she was in her early twenties.

Aya put the glass on the sink and opened the fridge door. She observed its contents and found them slim. She decided to grab something on the way to work, she wasn't that hungry yet. Aya rarely remembered to visit shop after her day was over. Her thoughts still lingering at work and when she didn't need to feed anyone else than herself, it was fairly easy to forget. Sometimes the loneliness bothered Aya, but at this point in her life it seemed almost impossible to meet anyone who she could tell her secret or reveal her job without endangering them in some way or freaking them out. Actually she had to keep MIST and NMCs secret from the public so she couldn't tell even if she wanted to and she didn't want to start a relationship knowing she had to hide huge things like those.

Aya sighed and started to get ready for the day's run. It was still dark but it didn't bother Aya. No other human could represent any threat to her because of her powers. Still she took her gun with her, in the case NMCs would attack. She couldn't use her powers if there were people watching. Aya wanted to jog early in the morning, the less people witnessing her incredible speed and durability the better. Aya tied up her sneaker's strings and was ready to take off. Even though she had woken earlier than usual, it didn't mean she had any time to waste; after jogging she would have to take shower, change clothes and grab a bite before the new working day. Aya turned off the lights of her apartment and locked the door before leaving for her run.

A/N: If there is something you don't understand or if you're not familiar with the game, feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer.

Chapter 3

Title: Evil arising

3. Evil arising

Monday, September 4th 2000, 5.30 p.m.
Akropolis Tower, Los Angeles

A red haired woman was standing on a street opposite the Akropolis tower near the center of the city with a black haired man. It seemed they were having an argument of some sort.

''I said I want out of this.'' the woman said.

''You know that isn't possible, you came to us with your own free will.'' the man said coldly.

''Well no one told me what kinds of creatures you would turn me into!'' the woman yelled.

''Would you shut up and go after your colleagues! They are ready to get the things moving. You cannot escape this, you are the most powerful form and we need you against that MIST team which will certainly be there.'' the man said irritated.

''I want you to take it out of me!'' the woman said, not giving up.

''It is too late for that and you know it. Your cells are transforming already, they are just waiting for the right moment to complete. You can either continue living as an ANMC or we can kill you here and now.''

''You're sick people, you know that. After this is over, don't come near me ever again.'' the red haired woman said angrily and left.

The man watched grinning as she walked across the street and disappeared through the Akropolis' tower doors. The man left satisfied, everything was going like planned. It didn't matter whether or not the red haired woman wanted this anymore or not. Once the transformation took place, it couldn't be reversed and she would be under their control. The man smiled wickedly, she would come to use as soon as their only real enemy, that secret MIST organisation, appeared.

MIST center, Los Angeles, 8.05 p.m.

The director in charge of the MIST, Eric Baldwin, was sitting in his office, browsing through some papers but left them be, unable to concentrate on anything. The was only one thing running through his mind while he was anxiously waiting a phone call to confirm whether or not their plan had worked out. He still couldn't understand how he had managed to get himself in this mess. Of course he needed that money because of his depths, but surely he could have made up some better way to get it. But at the time it had seemed to be the easiest way.

Baldwin sighed frustrated. It was rather dark in his office. 'Suits well for what I'm about to do.' he thought grimly. Only source of light was coming out of cars which passed by occasionally. This all was a strain on the nerves for him and he got up and started to walk nervously in his small office. Only sound that could be heard beside the sound his walking was the clicking of the wall clock's hand after every minute. Baldwin sighed again and was left alone in his thoughts. It all had seemed really easy at first when he came to work in MIST.

He put up a tough front, not letting anyone to get near him and pretending to be a strict and cold boss. Then one day he realised that every time one of his MIST hunters went out on the field, he feared whether or not they came back alive. He also started to understand how important the work they did was for all mankind. He knew he shouldn't think that way, he was supposed to work against this organisation. He tried not to care but the better he get to know his hunters the more he cared. His conscience didn't leave him be for a moment. But now it all didn't matter anymore. This was the day he had worked for and there was no turning back, It was the beginning of the end, at least they had promised to safe him from it all. After hearing that it made easier not to care about others. He wasn't going to pull the trigger on himself, he was going to see it to the bitter end.

The ringing of the phone interrupted Baldwin's thoughts. Quickly he hurried to answer.

''Baldwin speaking.'' he answered, trying to sound casual.

''Everything went like planned. I'm sure the police will contact you soon. I want you to send your two best hunters on the field. That Brea girl because of her powers and that Broderick because of his bloodlust for the likes of us. Understood?'' said a cold metallic male voice.

Baldwin closed his eyes hesitating for a moment. He had thought about this a lot but it didn't make it any easier.

''Don't tell me you have conscience after all. Sorry pal, it's starting to be a bit late.'' the man said mockingly.

''It's nothing. I'll do as you wish.'' Baldwin said, gritting his teeth.

''Good, you better do that.'' the mystery man said and hung up on him.
Baldwin stared at the phone for a moment.

It had been done and now there really wasn't a way to escape it. His soul would rot in hell and he knew he deserved it.

Shooting range, MIST Center, 8.18 p.m.

Aya Brea was practising at the shooting range once again, like she did many times after her working day was over. She didn't have much to do at home, so she liked to keep herself fit for her job. Aya had been shooting for quite a while and she was getting really tired. She just shot every target that appeared before her without thinking much. She just shot, loaded, shot and loaded again and again like she had learned already years ago when being a cop. Her thoughts had been drifting back to her nightmare and dead twin sister over and over again. It made impossible to concentrate on the matters at hand so she just let her mind wander deeper and deeper into her thoughts. Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by a loud siren and a bright red light which indicated that she had done an error. Aya looked at the target and noticed it represented human that was a mistake she hadn't done in a long time. She wouldn't beat Rupert Broderick at their shooting competitions if she kept this kind of performance on.

''What's the matter Aya, got something against little girls?'' she heard Pierce Carradine asking irritably from the control room.

They weren't allowed to practise alone and Pierce usually volunteered to practise with her. They had become quite good friends and Aya was starting to be quite certain that the poor guy had a crush on her. Aya hadn't told about her sexual orientation at her work place, since she liked to keep things to herself but it seemed this guy wouldn't give up before she told him directly.

''I'm just not in the zone today.'' Aya said shaking her head tiredly and lowering her M93R hand gun.

''Do you want to give another shot?'' Pierce asked more seriously.

''No, no. I think I'm ready to go home. It's been a long day.'' Aya said unloading her gun.

''Okay. I just shut the program.'' Pierce replied and disconnected.

Aya sighed and put the 9 mm. bullets back on the table behind her where all the bullets used in training were located. They weren't allowed to take those bullets outside the shooting range, the bullets used on field were stored in the firearms storeroom which her friend, Jodie Boquet, took care of. Aya also took of her headphones which just didn't block the sound of shooting but also played music while training. That, of course, had been Pierce's great idea and it actually helped Aya relax. It was really hot day and the air conditioning didn't seem to be enough. Aya ran her fingers through her short and moist blonde hair, she couldn't wait to get home and into shower. She rubbed her eyes; the contact lenses, which were used to count their extra salary after every kill while on the field, made her eyes feel really dry but it couldn't be helped if you wanted the money.

Aya put her gun on her shoulder holster, which she wore almost all the time. That handgun was one of her favourites because of its size, range and accuracy, it was also semi-automatic. Sometimes it wasn't enough so she owned a rifle and a shotgun too, but she had stored those in the gun rack, which Jodie also took care of. She didn't want that kinds of weapons in her home. Aya exited the shooting range through the only door, Pierce would take care of the lightning and other stuff. Aya came to a small hallway which walls were covered with articles about NMCs and creature discovery as the magazines referred to NMCs, since they didn't know about their existence. Aya ignored all those and went through one other door, which led to the control room.

When stepping in she noticed Pierce was talking with someone through the phone. Aya was about to walk past him, wanting to go home as soon as possible, but was stopped by Pierce's waving. Aya sighed and waited. Pierce had original looks, his rather long blonde hair was tied up in ponytail and he always wore round black sunglasses. Now he was in his green cargo pants and white shirt with brown vest to give some color. Aya herself just had light blue jeans and black t-shirt. They didn't have uniforms since they were supposed to work in secret and imperceptibly.

''So, what's up? Don't tell me it was Hal.'' Aya asked as soon as Pierce finished the phone call.

They all called Eric Baldwin as Hal because of his cold and detached manners.

''Yes, I'm afraid he was. Hal wants you.. I mean your supervisor agent Baldwind wants you at the Akropolis tower, downtown, ten minutes ago. It looks like the creatures had appeared again.'' Pierce explained.

Aya sighed tiredly, she wanted to go home, not to chase after some false alarm in the middle of the evening, but the place where she was supposed to go sounded really odd.

''Akropolis tower? I went there for clearance sell last week.'' she asked in disbelief.

''I bet not on the roof. Rubert is already there, it seemed urgent.'' Pierce explained.

''I hope this not some salesclerk in fluffy chicken suit like in last time.'' Aya said tiredly, still not believing this could happen.

''I don't think so, SWAT is already there.'' Pierce said sounding concerned.

'This is starting to sound serious.' Aya thought and readied herself to go, even though she was dead tired.

''I'm on my way. I suppose Jodie has my car ready?'' she asked Pierce who just nodded and said suddenly smirking:

''Did you have one too many last night? You don't look too good.''.

''No. You know I don't drink. I just saw a weird dream and didn't get enough sleep.'' Aya answered a bit irritated.

''Uuh, I like those.'' Pierce said sounding interested.

''No, nothing like that. It was about my sister. My dead sister crying for help.'' Aya whispered before she could stop herself, it wasn't like her to reveal things like that.

''I didn't know you had a sister.'' Pierce said surprised.

''It was a long time ago. Don't worry about it. I must go now.'' Aya said waving a goodbye wanting to end the conversation there.

''Be careful.'' Pierce shouted as Aya walked through the door to go to the carage, where her car was.

Aya walked through the short hallway and saw Jodie waiting for her in the carage where all the MIST hunters' cars were located. Aya looked at the smiling Jodie, who was rather beautiful with her long brown hair and green eyes. But she wasn't Aya's type, too lively and energetic, always in the center of action. Besides Aya was pretty sure she was straight, even though they never had discussed about it.

''Hiya, Aya. I put your guns and bullets in to the trunk. And I also put some water with you.'' she said winking.

''Thanks.'' Aya said smiling, she needed to drink a lot after using her Parasite powers, because it used the water in her body as fuel.

''Be careful.'' Jodie said concerned as Aya walked to her car and opened the door.

''Yes, as always.'' Aya said and waved before sitting on the driver seat.

Her car was rather new, she still paid for it monthly. It was a yellow cadillac, the kind of car Aya had wanted for all her life, she had actually named it Carrie. Aya smiled a bit when the engine roared to life. She waited as the carage doors opened for her and then pulled of, heading to the Akropolis tower.

Chapter 4

Title: Something familiar

4. Something familiar

Monday, September 4th 2000, 8.56 p.m.
Akropolis Tower, Los Angeles

Aya drove as quickly as she could but the traffic jam, caused mostly by the situation in the Akropolis tower, was so bad it took her over twenty minutes to reach the destination. When she turned on the street, which led to the tower she saw a huge detonation, which shook slightly her car and made her ears ring uncomfortably. Aya look frantically ahead and saw a police helicopter, which had crashed down on the ground and destroyed police cars and other equipment. 'This can't be happening.', Aya thought, 'This cannot be caused by those creatures, not again in these proportions. This got to be something else..please let it be something else.' she prayed as she showed her badge to one police officer controlling the traffic in and out of the scene.

Aya drove forward and parked her car behind few police vehicles, it should be okay to leave her car there. She got out of her car and looked around, there were ambulances and police vehicles all around, only thing that was missing was the press. Aya sighed tiredly and felt really sad as she saw dead bodies of police officers and SWAT members lying on stretchers. It also proved there was something there, whether it was other people or creatures Aya would find out soon enough. She swept her hair out of her face and prepared to go in. She went to her car's trunk and looked in; there was her rifle and shotgun with plenty of bullets and the water just like Jodie had said. Aya decided to take her shotgun since her rifle seemed a bit too militaristic since she didn't know what she was facing. However, if they were creatures there, a shotgun would be handy in close combats and it had great stopping power when shot at.

Aya liked to customize her weapons so she had attached a trap on the shotgun and was able to carry it on her back and she had added extra parts to it so it was more powerful and could hold seven shotgun shells instead oh three. She took few boxes of 9 mm. and shotgun shells and put those in her leather jackets pockets where she could take them quickly if needed. Aya loaded her guns and was ready to go to the great unknown. She spotted two police officers standing near the entrance of the tower. She hurried to the one closer to her and introduced herself by showing him her FBI badge. The police officer was rather old, pretty fat and he was eating donuts and drinking coffee in the middle of the chaos.

''MIST?'' The man repeated and Aya tried not to loose her cool, didn't the man understand she was in a hurry?

''Oh, yes. MIST. You're with the FBI, you're cleared for entrance. Go ahead.'' He said, managing finally to remember.

''What's the situation on the roof?'' Aya asked, trying to find out the true nature of the situation before barging in.

''Situation? Well it's under control if you haven't noticed! We just lost the contact with SWAT who went in moment ago and now our helicopter came crashing down. The situation is great. The army better get here soon or we all will be screwed.'' He said almost mockingly.

Aya decided it was better to go and see for herself than talk with him so she thanked him briefly and hurried pass him to one of the entrances. The Akropolis tower was rather new building and it looked very modern, it was hard to believe something like this could happen there. Suddenly Aya felt a rush of hot air and looked to her left, where she saw the remains of the police helicopter still burning rather close to the entrance, shedding ominous orange glow to the darkening night. The sound of police and ambulance sirens filled the air and made her ears hurt. The whole are around the Akropolis tower had been isolated and there were police officers guarding all the entrances just like this one. Aya approached the officer and introduced herself once again. The young police officer looked rather shaken by all what happened but Aya had to ask what the situation was.

''SWAT went in almost ten minutes ago, but we lost contact with them.'' he said almost whispering as if fearing to be there.

''What about the civilians?'' Aya asked persistently.

''They all were evacuated earlier. They were screaming something about creatures.'' he said hesitantly.

''Ok.'' Aya said and walked past him into the building as he stepped aside.

''Be careful.'' she heard the young man saying after her.

Aya just smiled, she would be fine but she couldn't say the same for the young police officer after all this would hopefully be over.

Aya came to a dimly lit hallway, which led to the elevators. She took her gun out of its holster and was ready to shoot anything that even reminded those monsters. When she was sure there were no creatures there she relaxed her stance a bit and called the elevator down. The elevator doors opened with 'blink' sound and Aya carefully proceeded in, there were no signs of creatures and she pushed the rooftop button. The doors closed slowly and Aya waited patiently as the elevator started to move up. She pressed her back against the left wall of the elevator and waited patiently. If she turned her head to right she could see clearly the whole helicopter accident scene down on the street as well as the numerous police cars and officers. She also could see numerous corpses and the frantic attempt to try to suffocate the raging fire in the helicopter. Aya felt sorry for the ones who had lost their lives as well as their family, friends and other relatives, but this wasn't the time to let one's thoughts to wander so she suffocated her feelings for the moment and concentrated on her mission. She had to make sure there wouldn't be more victims due this incident there.

Finally the elevator came to stop at the rooftop and the elevator doors opened slowly. After waiting few seconds behind the doors and then charged in with her gun ready to fire. Quickly she made sure there wasn't anything or anyone in the elevator corridor. When Aya was sure the area was cleared she once again relaxed her stance but didn't put her gun back to its holster. The corridor was dim lit as all the lights seemed to be out. Only light came from the emergency exit signs and from outside from the streets and other buildings, that gave an eerie feeling to the place. Quickly Aya inspected the right side of the corridor more closely: There was nothing important there, just a few couches and some plastic plants. Everything was neat and tidy, just the way you would expect; Aya could even see her own reflection from the polished floor. She looked through the window, which was at the end of the corridor. She could see clearly, even without her powers, that there were police officers in the opposite building's windows watching over the situation at the Akropolis Tower.

There wasn't anything out of ordinary in the corridor so Aya proceeded to the left side, where the door leading to the main area was located. It was a double glass door but she couldn't see clearly trough it. However mere looking into that direction made her feel uncomfortably as if there was something there. The feeling reinforced when she walked closer to the doors. There was something odd about the situation; it was too quiet in the corridor, only sounds were coming from the police vehicles and ambulances down on the ground. It was if the silence was screaming in her ears, trying to warn that there was something ahead. Aya switched her gun to her left hand and grabbed the door handle with her right hand. Slowly she pulled the doors open. First thing she noticed was the smell on the air, it was the smell of blood. It took a moment to her brains to register what she saw and when she realised what it was she almost started to feel sick.

''Oh my god..'' Aya whispered as she gazed the rooftop.

Everywhere were bodies lying on the ground and top of each others, torn apart by something as dead as one can be. It had been the SWAT team they had sent in just moments ago. Blood covered the walls, the glass windows, the floors and the roman statue standing in the middle of the area. It looked macabre, one could see everything was shining new and polished in the parts which weren't covered with blood or shot full of holes by the SWAT team. Aya checked the bodies for life signs but none had survived. She counted that there was total of ten bodies in the upper area of the rooftop. 'How this can be possible?', Aya thought in disbelief, 'How there can be left so many NMC's to cause this kind of destruction?'. She shook her head and took out of her mobile phone to call her supervisor. She explained the situation and even the cold agent Baldwin seemed a bit shaken by what he heard.

Aya disconnected and put her mobile away having the oddest feeling of being watched in the same time. She turned to look to her right and an NMC hiding behind a pillar, she was startled a bit but quickly recovered and aimed her gun at the little bastard. Aya shoot a round but the creature dodged incredibly fast and only one bullet hit it. Aya was too far from the creature that the bullet would even had slowed it down. It took much more to kill those things. The creature seemed just angry and attacked Aya, running at her so fast Aya had no time to dodge so she fell on the floor the creature on top of her. This creature was very human like; it walked on two muscular legs, its skull shaped head was bald and its eyes were black with red iris, giving the creature almost scary appearance but Aya ignored it totally as she stopped the creature from scratching her with its human like arms which were like blades. Aya quickly kicked the creature of her, suffering a minor injure in the progress. Aya bend her own mitochondria to her will and started to great heat in her cells. When the creature was up again Aya released that heat and a flamethrower like fire surrounded the creature and burned it. Aya ignored its yelling and almost human likes shouts as she finished the job with her gun, firing few rounds at the creature which finally fell on the ground, dead as stone. Aya watched ad the creature dissolved into disgusting orange mass and disappeared in the air after having turned into smoke.

Aya swept her forehead and inspected the wound in her hand. It wasn't that deeply cut, she could easily heal it with her powers. Aya concentrated on the wound and forced her mitochondria to create more power to her cells to regenerate faster. Before her eyes the wound stopped bleeding, the edges of the wound closed up and finally the wound disappeared leaving no trace. The most ironic thing with her parasite powers was that she was able to hurt other people with her powers but she wasn't able to heal them. She felt dehydrated after the use of her powers and quickly she took out a small bottle of water from her leather jacket's pocket and took a sip. The water was the real fuel for her powers and she felt normal again after a while.

Without wasting anymore time Aya walked down the stairs leading to the mid section of the rooftop. There was one more body lying over the railing, which surrounded the area. Aya checked him but he was dead too. His skin was still a bit warm and Aya cursed out loud; if she had came few moments earlier than she had these people might still live. Then she heard a scream or more precisely a shout, which sounded like human. She looked to her right and could see a monster attacking one remaining SWAT member downstairs. Aya wasted no time as she ran down the stairs in the right side of the mid section ending up in the lowest section of the rooftop. She held her gun out while running and shot few rounds but the creature (similar to the one that had attacked her just a moments ago) ignored it as it was feasting on the injured SWAT member. Absolute anger filled Aya as she closed the distance between them and tore of the screaming creature off the young man lying on the ground. She threw the creature on the ground and pinned it still with her body and started to beat it with her fists, but she knew it wouldn't kill the thing. If she had done the same for a human he would be a pulp of blood and mass by now but not those creatures. Aya concentrated again on her mitochondria powers and manipulated the creature's shells in a way what made it weaker and unable to move. Then Aya took out her shotgun, put it against the creature's head and fired two times. The creature's head exploded and its blood covered Aya's clothes but she just ignored it and watched with satisfied smile as the creature dissolved and disappeared while she loaded her shotgun.

Aya sighed and hurried back to the wounded SWAT member.

''You're going to be okay. I'm going to get you out of here.'' Aya said to the young man with calming voice.

His torso was badly scratched and blood soaked his uniform and his left hand, as well as his eye, were missing. He breathed with difficulty and managed to say: ''Watch out, they're not what they seem..'' before he closed his eyes and breathed for the last time.

Aya hung her head down and fought back her emotions. There was nothing she could for him anymore so she closed his eyes and stood up. The man was in the end of the lower section's right side and there was a cafeteria to Aya's right. Tables and chairs in front of the cafe had been turned over and leftovers had flown all over the floors and walls. It looked like the creatures had had a party, but for their bad Aya had come to end it as soon as possible. Aya walked closer to the cafe and looked inside through the only window located there. It looked about the same inside the small cafe as it was outside, but there was one table, which hadn't been turned over and there was a red haired woman sitting at the table. The woman wore a sweater, short skirt and shoes. First Aya couldn't believe her eyes but after blinking few times she was sure that the woman really was there.

''How can she sit there in the middle of this as if nothing has happened..'' Aya muttered, something about the situation made her nervous but she had no choice than go to rescue the civilian.

Aya went for the cafeteria's door and tried to open it but found it locked. She had no time to look for the key, which probably didn't even exist so she pushed the doors adding her parasite powers and the door's lock broke down and the door flew open. The woman didn't seem to notice this and Aya thought she might be in shock. Carefully Aya put her weapon back to its holster and approached the woman.

''Ma'am, you're safe now. I'm with the FBI.'' Aya said in formal tone and laid a hand on the woman shoulder.

Something was wrong, the shoulder under Aya's hand felt too cold to be alive. The woman started to fall to her right and Aya drew her hand back startled by this. The woman ended up on the floor with loud thump but didn't move at all. Aya bend down to look at the woman and see if everything was okay, but she quickly took a step backwards as she saw the woman's hand twitch and start to transform. Aya gasped in surprise as the woman rose to her knees with compulsive movements while her skin started to change color and her fingers transform into something else than human hands. Then the muscles in the woman's legs grew bigger and changed the color into light brown, almost reddish as the veins could be seen easily underneath. But to Aya's horror that wasn't even near the end. Next Aya could hear as the womans bones in her back cracked and took a new form, growing bigger and more beast like. The woman's mouth enlarged as the skin in her cheeks broke and her teeth grew bigger and sharper. All the woman's red hair fell on the floor as her head and face lost the human look and became more skull like. Her eyes were deeper in the skull and the color of her blue iris turned into red as her eyes turned otherwise black. All the time through the transformation the woman was panting in pain as cold sweat covered her skin. The creature looked a lot like the creatures Aya had countered before but this one was much bigger, it stood much taller than Aya.

Aya looked the creature a bit nervous but she would never escape a battle if it wasn't dead or life matter. Finally the painfully looking transformation seemed to be over and the creature charged. Aya didn't waste any time as she took out her shotgun and shot the creature, which flew backwards and fell on the ground. Aya hesitated a moment, she had never before seen someone turning into creature that way. She knew it was an NMC but she still hesitated and that hesitation almost cost her life as the creature got up and bit Aya on her right hand. Cursing Aya tried to free her hand but in vain. She quickly created heat in her cells and tried to flame the creature. The creature yelled in pain and let go of Aya's hand. Quickly Aya grabbed a chair closest to her with her left hand and hit the creature with it, which had no effect at all on the creature. Painfully Aya raised the shotgun and shot the approaching creature seven times. She couldn't reload with her injured hand so she found herself flying through the air as the creature hit her. Aya's back hit the wall and she felt dizzy. The creature approached her again but Aya quickly took out her handgun from its holster and shot the creature at its eye. The creature howled and fell backwards on the ground, seeming to be dead. Aya sighed in relief and cautiously stood up.
The creature didn't dissolve and it worried Aya a bit but she hadn't met that kind of creature before so she didn't know whether or not it should have.

Luckily Aya's back hadn't got hurt from the hard hit and Aya was able to move as easily as before. She healed the wound in her hand before she inspected the creature with her gun ready in her hands. It didn't move at all nor it didn't breath. It looked much like those other creatures she had countered earlier, it just was bigger than an average NMC. When Aya was ready to leave the creature be, she saw something behind the creature ear. Aya bent down and looked closer. It seemed like there was some kind of metal implant behind the creature's ear. Aya had never seen anything like that on the creatures before, so out of curiosity she took it off. It was stuck tightly but Aya drew it out with force. There were pieces of the creatures flesh hanging around it but luckily Aya had brought few small plastic bags with her for the possible evident so there was no need to dirty her leather jacket's pockets. Satisfied Aya stood up and readied herself to leave.
