Chapter 18

[Author's notes: Tabitha sees a side of others that most people should never have to.]

Chapter Eighteen - Selfish

In a partially darkened room high in the Regan Mansion, Tabitha layed in her bed by the light of two towering candles set on a small table near her. The dark haired Regan girl layed there silently, two photographs held in one hand looking at them in the pale light that was thrown by the little flames.

The girl intently stared at the two photos she held, her eyes tracing over the figure on each photo as she layed there. It was as if she was in a half trance like state, her eyes simply bounced back between the two images for many minutes, each one holding her in a different spell when she did.

One was a picture of her now former lover, the pretty Yvonne, hands raised up over her head and looking straight at the camera that took the photo. The young girl was making a very silly little face in her usual mischievous way, her tongue stuck out to it’s fullest at the lens in humoristic mocking. Yvonne’s eyes seemed to actually come through the pictures glossy face, and capture Tabitha’s in the way only a partner could have done.

She looked at the picture, a tear collected in her eye. That face reminded her of the boundless love she had for the girl, and of the way it all suddenly ended. She brushed the tear away, thinking of how she had tried to contact Yvonne, but had been given the cold shoulder. The finality of their relationship, stung her still deeply, but the finality was all too real.

The other photo was of Lori, sitting in the lounge chair at the pool party she had thrown for her awhile back. By the looks of it, Lori did not even know she had been snapped by the camera, but the small smile that painted the blondes face was very apparent, showing a warmth and depth that could be seen in or out of a photograph.

Tabitha smiled at the second picture, as something about the girl always made her feel like smiling, regardless of what might be going on. She sighed, and wondered just what she was actually feeling for the young blonde girl. Was Yvonne right in assuming she had feelings for Lori, and she was not seeing it. She had to admit, she was very fond of the young girl who had came and captured Haven by storm. She also thought on the attack that happened right on her own family’s door.

Tabby slowly put the pictures down beside her on the bed, and then pushed her head back deeper into the fluffiness of her pillow. Closing her eyes, she seemed to be slipping into some heavy thinking mode, her mind was very preoccupied at this point of time with a multitude of thoughts.

Taking a deep breath in while laying there, she folded her arm across her eyes and settled there for quite some time, her mind thinking on everything that has happened this summer. Things were not the way she had planned for her vacation.

A knock came at her bedroom door, breaking the silence and Tabitha’s thinking. It was a quiet sound, yet it was clearly a knock of hesitation. She lifted her arm off of her face and looked at the door, then the clock at the bedside. It read ten after midnight.

" Yes?" She called out.

A low voice of a man came through the closed door. She recognized it as one of her family’s butlers that stood outside.

" Mistress Regan..." The voice said. " Your parents request your presence downstairs in the study as quickly as you can."

" Is there something going on, Hiram?" Tabby said, half siting up in bed.

" I am not privy to what might or might not be happening, Mistress..." The Butler replied, his voice seemed very strained. " But I sense something is indeed up."

" I will be right down, Hiram. Tell Momma that" The girl said, the words of the butler making her feel a odd chill go through her.

Tabby climbed out of bed and threw on a jogging suit, before hurrying her way down stairs. She threw the babydoll she had been wearing back on to the bed, her mind flying with curiosity of what was going on. Her parents we usually asleep by now, and them getting her this late was a sign of something big.

When the girl came into the study, she found her parents were with some guests she did not know, but the mood did not seem to be very friendly. No one was smiling or even speaking, and that made Tabitha nervous.

The woman was in her late forties, a heavy sheen of make-up, large gaudy jewelry and obvious cosmetic surgeries overshadowed the opulence that she was dressed in fine clothing. The man was dressed in a plain black business suit and tie, but seemed to be very innocuous in his mannerisms. The two seemed to be a very opposite type of couple.

Tabitha’s father looked over at his daughter, his face was void of his usual trademark smile.

" Tabitha, this is Mr and Mrs. Harold Lewis." He said, his voice very flat.

Tabby looked over at the man and woman, as she knew that it had to be something to do with the court case that was going on.

" Lewis?" She snuffed, eyeing the two very suspiciously. " Are you the parents of that Sleazeball, Brian."

The man said nothing in response, but Tabby saw that her commenting shot got the woman’s attention in a big way.

" That is our son you are talking about so flippantly... a little respect would be warranted for your guests, Girl." She said with a huff.

" Respect is earned." Defiantly said Tabby, crossing her arms in front of her self as she stared at the woman.

The woman’s eyes flared with anger, as she glared at the young girl.

" You should teach your lesbian a thing or two about politeness..." She said, shooting a glare at Mr. Regan.

Mr. Regan leaned forward in his chair, and his face showed his anger now seething.

" I think out DAUGHTER has said her piece, and I respect that is her own thoughts." He said, his teth almost clenched. " After what your son has done invading my home, I think it has to be earned by your family."

Mrs. Lewis seemed to be getting madder than she had been, but sat back in almost a pompous act of coolness. Mr. Regan also leaned back, as Tabby came and sat in a chair next to her father.

" Now that my family is gathered... what do we have the... unique pleasure of your appearance here so late?" He said firmly. He obviously did not trust the couple.

The woman put her hands on her lap and stared at the Regan’s with a very unnerving smirk, her eyes were as cold as coal

" We came to see if you can rectify all of this trouble." She said, after a second or two. " Before we have to get tough!"

" Rectify? Get tough" Mr. Regan said in questioning. " Enough of your cryptic speech, Mrs. Lewis. You have something to say, say it before I get angry."

Cooly as ice water, the woman looked right at the three Regan’s, and did not hesitate one bit.

" We are hear on a mission of sorts, or that you can rectify if you wish to." She smugly smirked. " I would like you and your charming wife to get your servant girl, and house guest to stop the trial and drop all charges." She smiled coldly, her words were flat and calculated. " This little thing can ruin our son’s life, and he is destined to be someone. We need you to stop all of this before it can do damage to our family, and our sone in particular."

The Regan’s sat there dumfounded at the lady’s proposal. All three seemed to be outraged at what was being asked of them. Mr. Regan seemed to be the one that was the most amazed at what was asked.

" Your son breaks in on my property, rapes one of my staff members, beats the hell out of one of my daughters school friends and nearly rapes her at the same time... and you want us to ask them to simply ‘drop it’?" Mr. Regan said slowly. Are you nuts or something?"

" I am not nuts, just a mother..." Said the woman coldly to the Regan’s. " Why ruin a good boy’s life, for one unfortunate act of bad judgement?"

" You call that bad judgement... premeditated attacks on young girls are bad judgement?" Shouted Mrs. Regan, slamming her hand on the arm of her chair. " That is not bad judgement... bad parenting, yes, but bad judgement.

" You are the one to talk, with a openly lesbian for a daughter." Mrs. Lewis snorted. " Whom here is a bad parent?"

Tabitha stood up and glared at the Lewis’s, her face was a mask of great rage.

" I’ve got an answer for you on all of your shit your throwing at us..." Piped in Tabitha, her body stiffened in infuriation. " Does the term ‘fuck you’ ring a bell?"

The woman snuffed, ignoring the girl as if she never existed. She turned to Mr and Mrs Regan, an air of pomposity on her thin face

" If you don’t get yourself, your worker and the other to see it our way, My husband and I will make sure that things are a little more rough around her for the lot of you." She said. " It would cause a whole lot of trouble for all. Remember who you are dealing with! We are Lewis’s"

Mr. Regan was now incensed, as he looked at the smug middle aged woman. His wife breaks in

" So what if our daughter is gay, we have made no attempt to hide it." Mrs. Regan says, her anger evident. " It is not any shame to have a child who is gay... we respect her for who she is, and there is no reason to be ashamed in any way. I stand by my daughter no matter what. Your request sickens me"

" I am not talking about your little slutty dyke, my kind lady." She said sharply, a lecherous grin painting her heavily make-up laden face. " With her, I would not giver the time of day!"

" Then what in the hell are you leading up to, with defaming remarks of our daughter and orders directed to us with threats?" Jumped in Mr. Regan.

The woman folded her hands, and her posture got taller as she sat there.

" The others may not have such a easy time convincing the world... and their families, that their lesbian ways are right." She said, almost hissing her reply. " And you would not like to have people thinking that your home is harboring a den of lezbo fuck-fests, now do we?" She smirked coldly, her words venomous in nature."

" You would spread such falsehoods like that? Just to get your rapist son off to spare you the humiliation?" Said a very mad Mr. Regan

" The tabloids would have a field day with the daughter of prominent up-an-coming movie directors a out of control dyke sex fiend cavorting with the daughter of a corporate giant like yourself, wouldn’t they?" She cackled, replying to the man, adding. " Not to mention your summertime maid might not like her very religious family know their daughter seen as an ungodly sinner either? Being gay is against their religious beliefs."

" That is blackmail." Shouted Tabitha, incensed with the woman’s words. " They were attacked by your son, and you just want to have it simply pushed aside like he never did anything!" She stood up and took a step towards the couple. " What about Pasha, she is a lesbian too, and she is a part of your family too."

The lady just laughed with an air of disbelief, as if the girl had said the most ridiculous thing ever heard.

" That part of the family is... not indicative of the grand Lewis name. That skanky brat of our family would not even lift a finger to get him a lawyer until we could arrive here from our summer home on the cape. She is nothing in our family." She calmly stated. " All we want is out son to have what he deserves."

" I do too... That son of a bitch needs to be in a jail cell." Spat the young Regan girl.

" Watch your lezzie of a daughter, she may get her attitude changed." Snuffed the woman, arrogantly.

The woman stood up, and motioned for her husband, who had been silent all this time, to also stand.

" You just think about it long and hard... If we don’t hear about your answer soon, and things stay the same... things will be done like I said. I suspect that you are very smart, and will do the right thing" She smugly said, then adding. " Have a good night."

The two left to leave the Regan Estate, leaving a stunned Regan family to pounder everything that the Lewis’s had said.

" That is the most load of shit I have ever heard." Mr. Regan said, looking at his wife and daughter.

" Then what do we do, Papa?" Asked Tabitha. " We can’t let them get away with this kind of shit."

The man pondered his daughter question for moments.

" Talk to Lori, tell her and Melody what is going on." He said, thinking out loud. " Perhaps we need to tell the District Attorney about all of this too, along with out own family Lawyer."

" Then what?"

The man suddenly stopped, and looked at both his daughter and wife.

" Let’s explain this in the morning to Lori and Melody... We need some time." He said, his voice showing that he was thinking on something. " I just need to make a few phone calls, after contacting the DA."

" Phone calls? At this late hour" Asked his wife, with a small questioning tone in her voice. " Lawrence, what are you up to?"

" Have a little patience with me, my dear..." He said, his eyes now were filled with thought. " I think we can do something here..."

Tabby did not fully understand what her father was eluding too, but she waited for him to explain. The man thought for a moment or two, as he hurried over to where the phone sat on a long desk.

" I will be needing your help with this, and you too my honey." He said, addressing the two girl’s in his life. " Let me do the phone calls, then we need to have a small talk. I promise to explain it all then

Tabitha and her mother left to allow the man to do his thing. Both were not exactly sure of just what he had in mind, bit they only knew one thing... if anyone could get a handle on this situation, he could. Neither of them question that fact for one minute, but the hate filled Mrs. Lewis was one to be not quickly passed off.

Mother and daughter both went and waited outside the study, knowing that things would be layed out very soon for them. What ever the head of the Regan clan had in his head, they would just have to hear it.
