“What?”
“Don\'t cross the streams.”
“Why?”
“It would be bad.”

CHAPTER 9: Best Laid Plans.

Kim stared over Wade\'s shoulder as he checked the latest surveillance feed from Ron\'s headquarters. Both wore equal looks of frustration on their faces.

She let out a sigh as the last of it passed from the screen. “Not much to go on. I guess we should have figured on Ron\'s stomach when we set it up.”

Wade shut off the screen. “Yeah. It figures they would have most of their planning meetings in their dining room instead of the control room.”

“Water under the bridge Wade. At least we have some idea what they are up to. We can\'t let them get there first. Call everyone to Drakken\'s lab. It\'s time to go.”

Ron watched as Justine made some last minute adjustments to her modified Kinomatic Continuum Disruptor. He was still leery about the whole idea, but the chance of getting his MMP back was too great an incentive to let him back out now.

Justine looked up from the devices controls. “All is prepared. I have attuned the settings to the precise location in the other universe, with a margin of error of twenty kilometers and one day of temporal displacement.”

Ron nodded and turned to look at the rest of the team he chose to go on the mission. Like himself, they were all dressed in spacesuits borrowed from NASA. Since they knew nothing of the universe they were going to, it seemed like a good idea. Everyone also carried backpacks or duffel bags containing they gear they thought they might need.

Will looked thoughtful as he adjusted his helmet into place, while Junior seemed eager. Justine picked up her own bag and joined them. From his shoulder, Rufus gave him a thumbs up before climbing into the wide neck of Ron\'s own spacesuit.

Seeing that everyone was ready, Ron turned to Crash Cranston. “Hold down the fort while we\'re gone.”

At Justine’s nod, Electronique stepped over to the Kinomatic Continuum Disruptor and flipped it on.

The device emitted a loud whine and projected a glowing circle of energy into the middle of the laboratory.

Ron sealed his helmet into place, steeled his nerves, and stepped into the light.

Kim stepped through the glowing triangular interface of Drakken\'s PDVI powered “Inter-dimensional Physical Trans-locator” and found herself in a triangular tunnel of energy. It seemed to twist and flex slowly into the void as far as she could see. Beyond the glowing walls was a whole lot of nothingness.

She took a couple hesitant steps forward on the semi-transparent surface as the rest of her chosen assault team emerged. Anne and Shego, followed closely by Yori, Barry and Betty. They were all looking around with the same sense of wonderment she felt as Drakken and Joss brought up the rear.

Shego smirked. “This isn\'t weird or anything.”

Kim reached out and touched the glowing wall. It felt solid, even if it didn\'t look it. “You could say that. I kinda figured we\'d just pop right into the other dimension.”

Drakken shrugged. “Don\'t look at me. I never said it would be instantaneous.”

Anne looked at her daughter questioningly. “So what do we do now?”

Shego hooked her arms around Kim and Anne\'s and pulled them forward. “Apparently we\'re walking.”

Wade spoke to the group of geniuses standing behind him without taking his eyes off the control panel of the Trans-locator. “We\'ll each take shifts monitoring the dimensional interface. It has to stay open or they\'ll have no way to get back.”

Felix Renton squeezed between Dr. James Possible and Dr. Vivian Porter to get a better look at the controls. The entire system appeared to be cobbled together from bits and pieces of many different devices. Nothing was labeled. “What does this readout signify?”

Wade glanced briefly at the dial he was pointing at. “That\'s the dimensional passage integrity monitor.”

James leaned in closer. “Should it be fluctuating like that?”

Taking a closer look, Wade saw the needle swinging up into the red and back, then higher into the red again. His eyes went to the power distribution gauge. It too, was swinging wildly. “Oh shit!”

Alarms and flashing lights began to fill the air around them.

Crash slapped his hands over his ears as the Continuum Disruptor beeped loudly. “What\'s going on?”

Electronique paled to a lighter shade of blue as she manipulated the controls. “That is vat I am trying to determine. Energy levels haf doubled and zee power is being flushed back through zee interface.”

Crash\'s eyes went from the woman to the large headed scientist rushing to her side. “What do we do?”

Prof. Cranium took one look at the controls before replying. “We run!”

Junior watched as the glowing string of light got closer. “That is being very pretty. What, may I ask, is it?”

Barry felt fear crawling through his guts as Dr. Drakken spoke.

“It\'s another inter-dimensional passageway. If it intersects with ours...”

Kim yelled as the glowing round tube swung closer to their own triangular one. “What?”

Drakken gulped. “They could merge, causing a disruption to both vortexes.”

Shego prompted. “And that means?”

Drakken slumped down until he was sitting on the glowing floor. “You don\'t want to know...”

“Cow.”

The blond, bespectacled, man smiled proudly as his adopted daughter identified the farm animal. He sat down the colored wood block and reached for another.

His wife sat on the living room couch watching television, as he played with their young child.

The entire house shook as a loud explosion split the evening calm.

The Stoppables rushed to the window and looked out. In the distance, just beyond the outskirts of town, they could see a glowing mushroom cloud expanding into the sky.

“Honey? Isn\'t that where..?”

“Yes. It is...”

Behind them, on the floor, Hana Stoppable dropped a wood block into place next to two others. The brightly colored letters spelled out a word.

BAD.

Tara emerged from the swimming pool into the semi-tropical night air. Water sheeted off her nude body as she walked over to the lounge chairs. She smiled with anticipation as she saw Bonnie riding on top of Ricardo\'s hard shaft. A twinkle in the night sky caught her eye.

“Oh look! The Moon\'s all sparkly.”

Ricardo stopped thrusting as his eyes went to the sky. He saw light reflecting from a spray of dust rising from what appeared to be a newly formed crater.

“I am having a very disturbing feeling about this.”

Kim Possible stared through the glowing wall into pale blue eyes that reflected her own internal terror. Only a few feet separated her from Ron Stoppable as the two passages closed the distance and merged.

The universe shattered around her.
