Chapter 11

CHAPTER ELEVEN“So you girls are alright in here then?” Isabelles Father asks standing in the doorway of the room. He leans on the doorframe one hand holding a bottle of PURE BLONDE the other thrust casually into his pocket.Isabelle spins her swivel desk chair in the direction of the door grinning at her Dad. “Yeah, sure! No sweat. You just make sure you don’t drink too much.”Mr.Samsa laughs heartily. “Well that won’t be a problem me and your uncle and a couple of the boys who don’t drink are the taxi drivers for tonight. We only have so much space in the house for people to stay over.” He looks at me for a moment apologetic. “And I’m sorry about this Delilah. I didn’t expect Robert to be moving off until tomorrow night. But…it can’t be helped his army regiment is moving to Pukapanel sooner than expected. So we’ve had to move the party forward.” A dark-haired young man comes up behind Mr.Samsa and claps him on the shoulder. “C’mon Georgie boy.” His eyes glisten as he looks into the room leaning on Delilahs solid Dad for support. “You’re missing th’ g’bye speech!”I look down to my book in my lap away from the scene. Mr. Samsa says goodnight and leaves the room escorting the man back down stairs to the entertainment area, where everyone else was.“Drunkard.” Isabelle scoffs.I look up at her. “What?”“He used to work for my Dad, but he threw him out because he kept on arriving late and drunk to work.”“Oh,”“Yeah, he’s alright when he’s not drunk. A cool bloke. He’s joined the same regiment as Rob now. My cuz helped him get into the army.”I look back to my book and find where I was last up to. “That’s good for him then.”Isabelle sighed and I heard her chair as she turned back to the computer. “He still likes a good drink though…”~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~“Isabelle?”“Mmmn..?”“Is there any water?”She gets up and leans over to the box beside her. “Umm no there’s some Solo if you want that?” She says as she shows me the yellow can.I scrunch up my nose. “Ummm…”“No?”Isabelle looks over to me. “I think I’ll just get a glass of water.”“Okay.” Relaxed Isabelle lies back down and stretches. Her lithe body arches and she yawns. Quickly I get off the bed and out of the room. Removing myself and my eyes from the company of my friend. My feet are warm and the floorboards feel frozen beneath me and I shiver slightly at the first couple of steps. Gingerly making my way across the floorboards toward the staircase, I place my hand lightly on the stairs banister and jog quietly down the steps taking them one by one in even graceful pace.I’m so perplexed and in such a hurry that I do not see the person until I bump into them.“Whoa,” I’m caught off guard and a young woman stands before me. “S-sorry.” I say in one breath stepping back, my heal clipping against the hard surface of the step behind me.“Oh, no. that’s alright love.” She says smiling. “Hey now, your one of Isabelles friends aren’t you?”“Eh, o-oh yeah.”“Well hello then. My names Marilyn I’m Isabelles aunty.”“Ah,” I wish I could talk properly. But the scent of cigarettes invaded my nose and concentration on conversation was a little more difficult for me. “T-hat’s cool.” I say lamely.“Well what were you after lovey?”“Um, just a-a umm drink.” Lame “Of water.” Aaaaaah! Still lame!!“Oh, well don’t let me stop you.”The patient lady walks off and I make my way across the carpet toward the lino of the kitchen. It is cold, as is to be expected of such a floor on an autumn like this very one at present. I walk far over to the kitchen sink before remembering that first I would need a glass. I see on the bench a few glasses. But not knowing what was in them before me. I decided to try for a clean and unused cup from the cupboard. I glance about the kitchen and see a cupboard labeled with “CUPS, MUGS and GLASSES” and head over to the corner cupboard and creak it open. I twist my nose irritantly at my height, or rather there lack of height as I pick my self up on my tip toes to see into the cupboard.“Yoou need mnnmn-any hallp there?”I jump at the burly voice behind me and turn to face the dark-haired man from not nearly two hours ago standing just a little unstable on his feet.”…” I am stunned for a moment before answering. “Oh, n-no I don’t need any help.” Lie. I smile at the man uncertainly. “Just getting a glass of water.” I turn around and shut the cupboard and grab a tall glass from the bench instead. My heart is pounding as I hear heavy footsteps behind me. ~~“I’ll never let you forget…”~~ My breath speeds up. ~~“I’ll never let you forget…” Rough hands at my waste. Rough lips pressed to my cheek.~~ My hands are shaking. ~~“I’ll never let you forget…how patheticly weak and powerless you are”~~ I am suffocating as the dark haired man places a hand on either side of me. Trapping me. “Now you surre bout th’t?” He comes closer and puts his lips closer to my ear. “I’m sure icann help youu.” It is dark. I am no longer where I am. The past and present have come to meet. And life is taking a shot at me once again.Oh why?!Oh why do thy mock me?Are you trying to test me?Break me?Destroy me??All the time. All the time, the pain is relentless.Isabelle. Isabelle! Protect me. Save me. My eyes are shut tight.“HEY!”The dark haired man jumps back. I take in a sharp breath and push off the bench and I ran for it. I push past Isabelles dad who lets out a shock sound. “Delilah?!”I will not stop not even to apologize. I’m running faster than ever before. I stumble on the stairs and my heart pounds in my ears, my body feel numb as I flee from my fear. My body slams into the door and it swings open. I spin and twist my body catching the door in my hand and smashing my body against the door slamming it shut.SHUT IT OUT, SUT IT OUT AND KEEP THOSE MEMORIES TO THE PAST!!Where they belong, where they should stay…Forever more.
