Chapter 3

[Author's notes: Character (of sorts) added. Enjoy!]

I take my seat next to Victoria and attempt unsuccessfully to understand what I just witnessed. No one ever turns down Hannah...she practically runs the freakin' school! She's our own Queen Bitch...She wasn't always like this, though, and I still somehow harbor the hope that deep down she didn't change too much...

I turn and look at Victoria. Despite wearing your average Hollister jeans and t-shirt, she somehow manages to look like a freakin' goddess. I'm thinking she's determined to look this pretty solely to damage my self-esteem.

"That, or your virginity" my inner pervert adds.

My face turns bright red, but no one seems to notice. Damn. Now, instead of just dealing with zoning out, I have to deal with zoning out AND hearing homosexual, sexually charged jokes. It's not that I'm gay at all; my mind just seems to get a thrill out of my embarrasment and torment.

At the moment, Victoria's intently focused on all the make-up work she was loaded up with, and I can't blame her. Ugh, I wouldn't know what to say to her anyway. I turn from her and begin working on my 'lines' again.

I make absolutely no noteworthy progress, though I COULD really see that kidnapping fleshing itself out...

A tap on the shoulder draws me back into reality. I turn to find the source of the tapping to be Alex. He shakes his head at me, long curly brown locks flying everywhere, and sighs.

"Eve, this whole spacing out thing...you should probably leave it to me. I can actually pull it off without Bean noticing. You pretty much suck at it." He says with a slight grin.

I role my eyes and smile a little; I'd just gotten a typical Alex response.

"Cocky much? From the kid who looks up 5k records for the whole class?

"Ehh, you got me there. So we hanging out this-"

Alex stops in mid-sentence just as Ms. Bean turns around from writing on the board. Ms. Bean looks angrily around the room for the source of noise but to no avail; Alex is just that good. When she turns around, he turns back to me.

"Yeah, so we hanging this Friday? With the rest of the gang?"

I raise an eyebrow. "Duh, like usual."

Alex just grins and turns back around. I spend the rest of math stealing glances at Victoria.

The rest of the day is boring as usually until the bus ride home with Abby. I'm about to get off the bus when she brings up something quite interesting.

"Oh, Eve, remember that Victoria girl I mentioned?"

I perk up. "Yeah, why?"

"Well, I've talked to some people and apparently she's already with most of the popular crowd. Dissing Hannah actually got her a lot of respect. So I guess she won't be joining our crowd."

Well, there goes all my efforts for conversation. Ah well, with a girl like her this is the expected outcome. I get off the bus without Abby remembering to beat me over the head for abusing Ralph, who happens to call me later that day right when I'm 'in the shower'. Oh, a shame, I know. So overall it was an okay day, but the news about Victoria still dissapointed me. I went to bed with a some kind of odd feeling in the pit of my stomach...

It feels something like sadness.

"Or sexual tension?" my mind adds helpfully.

I just groan.

I'm still feeling kind of down the next morning until my mother indirectly reminds me of an important fact. While walking out the door, I hear:

"Hey Eve, remember to take out the trash after you get back from your half day!"

A half day! Of course! I had forgotten that we had one of those. Half the classes and school time today...yes! I happily make my way to school and breeze through everything. Chemistry flies by, I watch a movie in Lit. and I am utterly blissful...until Precalculus comes along. It's always Precalcus.

After the class bell rings and I take my seat next to Victoria, my mind began to drift towards thoughts the evening. Maybe I'll hang out with Alex, Abby and the rest of the gang. Movies, pizza, and FINALLY some relaxation....ahh, tonight would be-

"And the answer, Eve?" I snap my head up towards Ms. Bean. Her face is adorned with an evil, knowing smile. I swear, that woman can't hear or think coherently, but she knows exactly whenever I start one of my little daydreams. Time to improvise...

"Undefined. There is no answer!" The class just looks at my oddly. Well, I tried at least.

Ms. Bean narrows her eyes and opens her wrinkled little mouth. ...and her comes the lecture. Great.

"Ms. Walker, if you were paying attention you would know the correct answer. Do you even know what problem we're on? You know what, you have about two minutes to give me the answer before I-"

"Fourteen."

Eh? I turn my head to find the source of the interruption: Victoria. A few people give her an odd look; Ms. Bean is certainly not the teacher you want to interrupt or get on your bad side; I can personally account for this. Lo and behold, Alex actually looks up from a cleverly hidden Runner's Weekly and raises his eyebrow at the popular new student. Ms. Bean turns sharply and stares at Victoria with a strange look on her face.

"Eh?"

"DId you not just ask for the answer? Is my answer not correct?"

Ms. Bean says nothing, but her eye begins to twitch a little. Oh, please, I pray to God that she hasn't finally snapped.

"Victoria, sweeetiee-" The way she says sweetie is nearly murderous; I am scared.

"It is sooo GREAT that you know the answer, but I was just asking Cloud Brains over hear. Not You."

I chuckle; Cloud Brains isn't half bad, really.

"And I do not expect ANY more interruptions. Understand?"

Victoria, who has been looking intently at Ms. Bean, responds, "Yes, I definitely do."

"Very well then. You and Eve can stay after class for an hour today and grade all my papers. Each error costs you a point on your overall grade."

We look at each other in shock as the bell rings and all the students, along with Ms. Bean, file out of the room to enjoy their half day. I turn to Eve.

"Ehh, I'm REALLY sorry about the whole detention thing." I start, a little embarrassed. I haven't been able to talk to Eve all week, and when I get a chance it's because I got her in trouble. She just smiles, and it's as beautiful as ever. I don't know why but that smile makes me feel nervous...

"It's okay. She's a total bitch, and you seem really nice. So far in this school I've only encountered horny jocks and bitchy cheerleaders."

I raise an eyebrow at her. "Well...that pretty much is Harrison." She laughs and I can begin to feel the tension slipping away. We talk non-stop for the rest of the hour while doing Ms. Bean's dirty work, and I love every second of it; I have truly never met anyone HALF as vibrant, beautiful or charismatic as Victoria before! I learn that she has an extremely rich family and really hasn't made any true friends here yet; the cheerleaders tried to draw her in, but, luckily enough, she's not buying it.

"It's just, they're so fake." she starts while bending over to pick up a box under Ms. Bean's cabinet. While she is starting to bend over, fate decides to intervene and my eyes happen to travel downward...which grants me a view of Victoria's godly ass...

.

..and my jaw drops. I mean, DAMN! That ass....

My mind stops whirling as a sudden realization hits me. Oh, God, it just turned me on. Badly. Come to think of it, I really wouldn't mind for Victoria to wear some less revealing shirts...and maybe then go pick up some more boxes...

"HA! Who's the pervert now? And, yeah, 'those awkward' homo jokes were your subconscious reaching out. Truly basic psychology, really..." my mind adds.

I push aside the voice, and that's when the impact of what just happened fully hits me. I've finally befriended Victoria...while simultaneously discovering an insanely strong attraction towards her. Oh, God, I mean, before now I've NEVER been attracted to ANY guy like that. Or girl for that matter. Oh, man, I need some air...

"Something wrong, Eve?" Victoria asks, smiling like usual.

"Nah, you can just pick up some more boxes." comes out of my mouth before I can stop it. Damn you inner pervert....

Victoria just laughs as she finishes putting the boxes up and my eyes glue themselves to her rear.

"Well, the hour's up, it seems, and I think we're all done."

"Oh, okay." My mind is still on lockdown.

Victoria begins to walk towards the door. Right before she learns, she turns around. I'm still staring off into space.

"Eve..." she begins nervously. "You think you'd like to maybe...hang out a little later today? My parents have been bugging me about bringing home a friend...and I do really like you..."

I manage to nod my head. My thoughts are still a mixture of "Oh, dear God, please help me." and "What. A. Piece. Of. Ass. Tap that, please."

Victoria smiles brightly and runs over to me.

"Thank you!!" she smiles and envelops me in a huge hug.

Still in shock, I barely notice as she hands me a piece of paper with her address and a time on it and runs outside to meet her mom. Somehow, I manage to wave to her as she sprints out of the room.

"Life just got interesting." I mumble aloud.

A/N: Well, I got another chapter out! It may be a little rough, though, so just review and tell me what you think. I still have to change Ch.1 and Ch.2 to fit some of the changes I made here (like making Eve seem a little more, gay, moving Victoria's seat in math, etc.) but let me know how you think the story's going!

[End notes: Edited. Hope you like Inner Eve =) Oh, and thanks The Anonymous! I wouldn't have caught those mistakes otherwise. And to all the other reviewers, you guys rule!]
