Chapter 1

[Author's notes: Story Redone! Tell me what you think.]

It’s just me and him, alone on the balcony. Winter’s soft chill can’t dampen my spirits at a moment like this, and my heart is burning brightly. “It’s just…you’re so perfect!! I’ve never felt like this before!!” He just smiles knowingly and puts his arm around me. I blush and can feel the heart rising on my face. He leans towards me, opens his mouth, and…..

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!

The blaring siren that is my alarm once again drags me back into consciousness. As I groggily get up from my bed, I try to remember my dreams that had been so rudely interrupted….but I can only pick out a nameless, faceless guy on a balcony with me.

Just another fantasy about actually liking my boyfriend. What a surprise... I think sadly. Yes, that dream was sure not about my actual boyfriend. I can’t even really say I actually like my boyfriend of three months, Ralph.

Ralph. The word alone puts my face in a grimace. Really, he’s not that bad of a guy; he's just completely wrong for me. I mean, he IS a quite buff football player, and I should consider myself lucky...but I don't. He's even nice and caring (pretty rare traits for jocks), but..I just don't feel any connection. But it wasn’t like I was going to turn him down such a nice guy...

“EVEEEEEE!!!!!!!” The sound of my mother’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts and I rush to the shower before she can start yelling again. In record time, I wash and blow-dry my hair, put on make-up and get dressed. Before heading downstairs, I take a quick glance in the mirror. My long, curly blonde hair cascades down my back, and my large green eyes seem to shine today. Okay, okay. That’s definitely exaggerating, but I can wish, can’t I? At the very least I was gifted with an adequate figure: skinny, not too tall, and a substantial amount of breasts.

After this extended glance in the mirror I sprint downstairs, grab my backpack and make it on the bus without a second to spare, as usual. I walk down the aisle until I spot my best friend Abby. We flash a smile at each other, and I take the seat next to her. Abby has been my best friend for as long as I could remember, though yeah, we both aren’t that popular; I’m considered "hot" by jock standards, sure, but I never could do the bitchy cheerleader gossiping thing, and, unlike many girls in my grade, I don't seethe flirtation around every hot guy I see. Abby is really the person I can trust the most, the person that will listen to my whining about how much I really don’t like Ralph (bleh, Ralph). Today her bright orange, curly hair falls down to her shoulders, and her brown eyes seem giddy.

“Hey Eve, any more dreams about Ralph?” she prods, with a slight smile. I grunt, and she chuckles; Abby always has possesed the ability to read my every thought.

I sigh. "Don't even get me started..."

Ten minutes later, we get off the bus, and I take a good look at Harrison High School. Willow trees adorn the lawn of my three-story prison, and a banner hanging from the roof attempts to garner attention for some nonsense about our football team. Sports….really don't interest me. Neither does school. Well, I hate it, but I’m no idiot; I keep straight-A's... but I sure don’t enjoy doing it.

I walk through the halls and head to my first classroom/torture chamber of the day: Precalculus Honors. My teacher, Ms. Bean, appears to be nearing the 100 year old mark and is like the great-grandmother our class doesn’t want. I take my seat in the back row next to my neighbor and good friend Alex.

Alex immediately turns to me. The look on his face, reminiscent of a scared puppy dog, allows me to guess his next question. “Hey….you think she’ll check homework today?!?!” Alex frantically asks. I sigh. Yep, I know Alex all right. Alex is the laziest, just plain weirdest kid you'll ever met…but you can’t help from being friends with him. I think there is something to be said about the charm intense sarcasm can eventually have on someone, and, if anything besides running, sarcasm is Alex’s forte. Yep, he’s the cross country captain, too, and a pretty dang good one, at that. You don’t have to be a genius to know that running three miles in less than 16 minutes is basically inhuman. Then again, looking at Alex’s extremely skinny frame and long legs, I could have sworn that he was born to run.

“Yes, Alex. She always does.” I answer, rolling my eyes. He slumps in his seat, dejected by the answer he knew was coming.

“Ah well. Screw math!” He pats his legs. “These two babies will carry me throughout high school!!” I roll my eyes again as the class bell rings. You’d be surprised to know that Alex is actually a little smarter than me; he just manages to apply himself as little as possible. It's quite a feat.

“Okay, class…” Ms. Bean starts. “Today I have an important announcement!!”

“Maybe she’s retiring….” Alex says dreamily. I just roll my eyes; around Alex it’s a habit.

“We are getting a new student today! She is moving here from, err….” Ms. Bean looks down at a piece of paper on her desk. “England!!! And she will be here for the remainder of the semester, so I want everyone to treat her like she is a part of our Math Family here at Harrison High!”

A new student? This actually piques my interest. Harrison High rarely sees new students, and we could be getting anyone from the guy in my dreams to a psycho serial rapist. I obviously hope for the former.

We all look expectantly at Ms. Bean until she finally gets the memo.

“OH!! Yes, yes. I should probably unlock the door and
let her in. Old age, you know…” Oh yes, I know. She trails off, muttering to herself, and heads over to the door to let in our new student…..

..and mouths drop. This girl, I’m telling you, is something else entirely. Her wavy blonde hair truly cascades down her back, and her clear green eyes seem to be actually be sparkling. Before this moment, I had never actually thought this feat to be possible; but her eyes are ACTUALLY sparkling! A realization redirects my thoughts, as a glance around the room's salivating male population immediately tells what’s on all of the guys’ minds. I frown in disgust.

“Her name is…” Ms. Bean frowns as her memory once again fails her. “Victoria.” the girl’s low, soft voice utters. The girl smiles as she speaks in a way that the world's greatest supermodel could only aspire to achieve, and just a few seconds of looking at her completely reverse any notion I had previously held about beauty. I suddenly realize I'm staring and look away akwardly. Smooth, Eve. Creep out the hot new girl in record time. I push aside my creep inner voice as the girl moves towards the only empty seat: the one on my left, of course. I glance over at Alex, but I find him not giving the new girl a second glance; he instead has hidden the newest edition of Runner’s Weekly in the recesses of his math book. “Usain Bolt….pssh.” he grumbles. Alex would be the one guy to not care about Victoria. I think and laugh a little to myself.

The girl takes her seat next to me, and I am graced with the first close-up view of her. Damn…those boobs could knock someone out cold!! And her face….sheesh. How flawless can someone be?! Victoria looks towards me, and I immediately twist my face away, now sporting a bright-red complexion. Victoria raises one perfect eyebrow towards me. "Ehh, sorry. I really didn't mean to be staring." I sputter out awkwardly.

She laughs a little and smiles at me. It's not one of those huge grins; it's one of those little smiles that seem to say a lot more. I wish I knew what this one was saying...

“It’s okay; I get the whole looking at the new student thing. I’m Victoria, as your math teacher was so kind to announce. What’s your name?” Her speech seems inhumanly eloquent and....perfect. Like the rest of her, actually...gah.

"I'm Eve. So why in the world would you move down here to Harrison?"

She smiles another one of her little smiles. "My dad's work. And I'm sure it can't be too bad-"

"DO I HEAR TALKING?" Ms. Bean snaps in my direction. We all answer no, and she mutters something about checking her hearing aid, but the conversation with Victoria is ended. This saddens me a little; I don't know her at all, sure, but she seems like the kinda person you'd really want to get to know...

Masses passes, but before I can try to talk to Victoria again, Ms. Bean drops another announcement on us."OH, Victoria, hunny, I'm actually going to need you to move your desk over to this side of the room." Ms. Bean points to the vacant right corner of the room. "You have a lot of make-up work to do, and Eve will only distract you. She's what we call a slacker."

"HEY!" Ms. Bean seems to ignore my interruption.

Eve rolls her eyes and smiles sadly at me as Ms. Bean moves her desk. I slink into to my desk and sulk. Ugh...super cool, nice new British student sits next to me... and then Bean has to go and move her because of damned make-up shit... I continue my sulking, and after a while the bell finally rings. Victoria is immediately surrounded by jocks offering to help her find her next class. Big surprise there; I just hope she isn't one of THOSE girls. But you know what? I'm going to find out; it's not everyday you get a new student like this at Harrison High; really, I doubt Harrison will EVER get a student like her again, and I don't even know her yet. But, oh, I sure plan to...
