When life’s stressing me out, I come down to the beach. I can scream and shout here, and it will be lost in the sound of the crashing waves, their fierce response an echo of my raging heart. Here is peace, sanctuary, solace - and her.
I met Alyssa on the beach some time ago. She is a beautiful woman, with long, dark hair and bright blue eyes - my perfect woman. She sits with me and quietly listens as I offload my life’s burdens, never wanting anything in return, never asking for anything. She says she just likes to listen to my voice.
The pressure’s been intense lately. I feel like the whole world is bearing down on me. I’ve been at the beach a lot - and she’s always there for me. I know that I love her but I can’t say the words - I’m under too much strain to take on the responsibility of loving her. The world is cruel to women who love other women, and dealing with the prejudice of society is something I don’t have the courage to add to my list of burdens.
She should stop coming. If she’s sane, she would. But she still continues to listen to me with each passing day, with nothing but a smile upon her lips.
I think she knows my heart’s true nature, and I pray there will come a time when I am strong enough to tell her I can finally return her love - and when I do it shall be with every fiber of my being.
Until then, I just have to hope she keeps coming.
