-Grocery Store-

“Damn it! Chou’un, where do you think Ryuubi went!”

“Chouhi, think hard about what you just asked me,” I turned to Chouhi who blinked up at me. The brunette crossed her arms, frowning as she rubbed her chin. Suddenly her eyes lit up, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me.

“Ah, magazine rack!”

“Precisely,” I picked up a few more spices and dropped them into the basket as Chouhi ran past me in search of Ryuubi. As I pushed the basket along, I could only wonder how Kanu was holding up back at Seito. I had no reason to suspect any problem was going on since Koukin relayed to me that Kyoshuo was busy with internal affairs.

Narrowing my closed eyes, I could only hope his hunch was correct.

-Kanu’s POV, Seito Dojo...-

“So, you’re just going to stay and take care of me, Kakouen? Doesn’t seem like your style,” I mumbled as she finished wrapping my arm. She looked up at me with those glass eyes of her and I got a sudden chill.

“Then it looks like you don’t really know me, Kanu,” Kakouen said low as she made a make shift sling for my arm. Blinking as our eyes met once more, her eyes drifting somewhat halfway closed, smirking at me.

“Never knew I was supposed to…”

“But of course. To defeat your enemy, one must know them, personally and intimately,” Kakouen raised her brow at me, smirk still dancing upon her lips. Feeling a blush come on, I turned way. Why am I blushing every time she looks at me that way? She’s so detached and vindictive. She’s shown almost zero expression prior till this unforeseen encounter between us.

Before today, I had little to no reason to believe this girl was even capable of smiling, much less emotion in general. Her hair fell over her shoulder as she adjusted the sling as I watched her. She seemed so stoic and impassive about almost everything and everyone around her, save for Sousou himself. This was probably why a lot of other toushi feared her. Kakouen didn’t show any signs of panic. She never cracked under pressure and if she did, you’d feel it in all the broken bones you’d end up with after she were done with you.

Though I never had the misfortune of fighting her just yet, I’ve heard of what she was proficient in. And that was enough for me. She looked up at me as I blinked. We just stared at each other for a moment, her smirk no longer visible. Her eyes had almost an ethereal glow to them. I could hear my heart pounding within my ears as our gaze was locked.

“…you,” Kakouen raised her eyebrow at me as I spoke.

“Hm?” She cocked her head to the side somewhat. I looked down quickly, then back up.

“…you should smile….more often,” The look of astonishment on her face must’ve been a first for her because I felt that she was indisputably stunned.

“If it makes you feel more comfortable, Kanu. Then I will smile for you,” And with that, she smiled, eyes half-closed. Blushing hard, I looked away, finding something, somewhere to stare at other than those eyes of hers.

-Kakouen’s POV-

"And it seems like the mighty Kanu is a lot more bashful than I'd have imagined," I said, fastening the sling securely, still grinning. Kanu was obviously bothered, her hair shrouding her face. I rather enjoyed tormenting her this way, killing her with kindness in other words.

"...stop playing with me, Kakouen..."

"I'm not--"

"Don't lie! You're in wait until Chou'un returns so you can do away--" Grabbing her cheeks and squeezing slightly, puckering her lips, I glared at her. I had to admit, her expression was priceless, face looking like a fish out of water. Raising a brow, I felt every muscle in her core tense like a fine tuned guitar.

"Contrary to popular belief, Kanu, I came in search of the Dragon Jade currently held by Ryomou Shimei," Kanu blinked, face reddening as I continued to squeeze her cheeks, causing her to talk like a fish. She grunted and slapped my hand away, looking towards the window.

"Then leave. She's not here," I watched her for a moment as she kept her face turned away. I could understand why she hated me. But for once, I was actually being sincere about my intentions. If she were not prepared to fight, then I will not fight. And I'm not one to go back on my word.

"You really want me out of here, Kanu Unchou," She turned and looked me dead in the eye.

"...yes, now get out."

"Or else what," Kanu narrowed her eyebrows at me for having asked. I just smirked at her, a blush creeping underneath the bangs that covered her face. Kanu downcast her eyes just as a loud crash sounded from the courtyard. Both Kanu and I turned in unison toward the sound, and then looked at each other. Helping Kanu up, putting her right arm around my shoulders, we moved to the front sliding doors as I set Kanu down to hold the wall, sliding open the door part way before a voice rang clear.

"KANU UNCHOU, we have unfinished business!"

"Ryofu," Kanu mumbled as I glanced at her.

"Stay behind the wall and don't say a word," The way she looked at me was as if her life would end if she did as I said. I closed my eyes, gripping the doors.

"Kanu...trust me," Looking up, her gaze softened as she nodded, sliding away somewhat and onto the floor by the front door. Taking a breath, I slid open the door.

"Ryofu Housen, what brings you here to Seito?"

"Kakouen Myousai? I'm more curious to know why you're here," The busty Rakuyou broad, crossed her arms underneath her massive chest, raising a brow at me. Stepping out, I slid closed the doors behind me.

"Seito is my territory. And right now, you're trespassing," I spoke, squinting my icy eyes at the lime-eyed girl. She laughed, chest bouncing during the ordeal.

"I'm afraid it's the other way arou--"

"Leave, Housen. Or I won't hold back," She smirked.

"But isn't it against The Way of the Toushi to fight someone rendered otherwise disabled?" I walked down the dojo steps, edging closer to her to keep her from moving forward.

"True. But you, Housen, are not impotent but fully capable of pushing yourself to the threshold of death. Your illness may cripple you from time to time but it is your choice to fight. Therefore, the rule does not apply to such a tactless fool like you," I spat coldly, crossing my arms. Ryofu's smirk soon turned ugly as she dashed towards me, throwing a punch I caught in my right hand effortlessly without flinching, glaring into her lime eyes. She growled, turning around quickly to kick my face to which I bent backwards as her leg swept over my face, missing me by an inch.

Grounding my back foot as the concrete crumbled under the pressure, I moved forward, my right hand planting itself nicely against her ribcage as I sent a blast of energy through her body. The attack sent her flying back, smashing into a few statues. Moving over to where she crashed, I had just enough time to dodge a barrage of punches, unraveling my jade shot and whipping it around her thigh.

"What the--!?"

I leaped back and pulled hard, winding it slowly as Ryofu screamed. The wire had wrapped itself around her thigh as I wound it, causing the girl to drop to her knees, gripping the bloodied wire. She glared up at me as I coolly stared in her direction, the wire held fast against my fingers.

"Leave, Housen."

"Piss off, Kakouen," She fumed as I narrowed my eyes.

"Very well then, Ryofu," With that, I released the wire and lunged at her kneeled form full force, centering my palms against her chest as she stood to defend herself. But it was too late. I unleashed a massive force attack against her chest that sent her fly further back through trees that splintered her back.

Looking through the hollow of trees that I created, I casually walked through my damage. I heard severe coughing, gurgling as I found the source. Ryofu was hunched over, one hand over her chest and the other over her mouth. Her uniform had been obliterated as she was in tatters, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth.

"Now, I am only going to say this one more time: Leave now, Ryofu Housen. Or your next breath will most certainly be your last," And with that, she stood shakily as blood dribbled from the corners of her mouth.

"This isn't over, Kak--"

"It's over, now leave!" I shouted, grasping what little she had on and shoved her roughly. She grit her teeth before turning and running off quickly through the thicket of brush.

Sighing deeply, I returned to the dojo, opening the sliding doors to find an immobilized Kanu Unchou fast asleep and slumped against the wall. I found myself smiling somewhat, leaning down to pick her up and make our way back to her room. Laying her back, the movement must've woken her as she jumped and looked directly at me.

"Where's Ryofu? What--"

"She's gone and that's all that matters," But before I could put her to bed, she grabbed my arm.

"...You're hurt," Looking at her oddly, I saw my arm and the blood that stained the fabric. It didn't dawn on me that I'd been hit didn’t as I feel pain too often. She then undid the bandages along her mid-section, rewrapping them around my arm. I watched her carefully, the blush that painted her cheeks.

"...Thank you....Kakouen..."
