Chapter 1

Title: Chapter 1 - Get ready to Play!

“Right, here we go!” Narrisha said, slamming the manual she held down on the floor, looking forward to this game Jiki and Kiro had introduced her to; Rhanar, Shica, Jiraz, Jiki, Kiro and a couple of other of the Nightwind girls sat down in front of the table, this ‘role-playing game’ sounding interesting to them.

“So, we are to choose ‘classes’ to determine what profession we have and thus act to our character’s role?” Rhanar asked.

“Yep, you just pick a class from this paper...” Narrisha said, handing Rhanar his character sheet.

“I'd sure pick a Drow Rogue; they’re the closest I get to the real me...” Shica smirked to herself, Jiraz grinning at her as she went through her own character sheet.

“I would surely choose a Paladin; healing and fighting prowess wouldn't be a bad mix” Allisia said, pointing at a small illustration of a warrior in full plate armour with a shield and mace.

“I’m going for a Tiefling Warlock; suits me right on” Jiraz said, liking the picture of a female tiefling in a leathery, black dress, casting a fireball from the palm of her hand.

“I want to be an Elf Ranger girl! With a cute little kitten as pet!” Chinyi immediately cheered and waved her hand in the air as if to be picked for her class.

“Easy, Ms. Chinyi; rest assured we can use a ranger” Rhanar nodded, Chinyi not calming down her eager waving, making the draconoid let out a grin at the young girl's eager obsession with elves.

“I’d like to be an Elf Cleric” Kiro suggested, Jiki looking over as Kiro wrote down her race and class.

“I think a Human Sorceress is more like me” Jiki commented as she wrote down her race and class as well, Kiro smiling at her.

“The two of us really have a liking to magic, haven’t we?” Kiro smirked, Jiki grinning and placing a kiss on Kiro’s forehead.

“Just don’t go swing it around too much” Jisha commented, Rhanar looking at his niece with a acknowledgeable nod.

"I still cannot make my mind up; I do not know if I should be a Warrior or a Sorcerer...and not even what race to be" Rhanar mumbled, Narrisha looking through her manual.

"Well, you could try a Dragonkin for a race, and a Battle-Mage for class" Narrisha suggested, Rhanar looking confused at her.

"I know what a battle-mage is, but what is a 'dragonkin'? Is it like me, a draconoid?" he asked, Narrisha flipping through a few pages.

"Uhmm, yep, looks like it, and you...first of all, what kinda dragonkin do you want to be?" she asked, Rhanar revealing his fangs in an evil smile.

"Black, of course" he nodded, Narrisha looking back at her manual.

"OK, then you get an ability to-o-o-o...ah, there we are, you can cast any kind of spell for additionally 2 more times a day" Narrisha read up, Rhanar nodding as he wrote down his race and class.

“And now you need to put in your stats: Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Wisdom and Charisma.”

“Let me see, then; hmmm...do go on, this will take a moment...” Rhanar said, mumbling and letting his finger down the list of classes.

"Let me see; I have 32 points to spend, and I have 10 points for starters in each of these stats; hmmm...8 points extra in Strength might do..." Rhanar mumbled, the others writing down their own stats.

"Uhmm, Jiraz, why did you put half your points in charisma?" Shica asked, Jiraz grinning and ereasing her point status, organizing them more properly this time.

“Next up is...your gear; supplies, armour, weapons, items; anything” Narrisha said, Rhanar’s eyes lightning up, his love for tactics awakening.

“I would suggest food rations and portable tents, first of all; we cannot expect for inns to just pop out of nowhere” he said, Chinyi sending the draconoid a sceptic look.

“You sound as if you don’t like sleeping indoors, Rhanar” she asked, Rhanar nodding; “as far as I know of these RPG scenarios, there sometimes is a possibility to find your throat slit by a hired assassin for reasons unknown to you.”

“R-really??” Chinyi asked nervously, Minyoki, sitting beside her, nodded at her as she had written down her class and race.

“Rhannie’s right, Chinyi; it’s not just playful elf girlies you meet at inns and taverns” Minyoki said, Rhanar nodding at her.

“You sound as if you know of these things; impressive” Rhanar said, Minyoki simply grinning.

“Nah, I just play World of Warcraft” she said, laughing as Rhanar’s mouth went slightly agape as he had no idea what she spoke of.

"It's an MMORPG, Rhannie; it's some high-tech stuff to you, I suppose" Minyoki partly mocked, Rhanar taking no offense of it.

"Well, at that point, I really 'do' have a tendency to stick my nose in spellbooks and tomes rather than to try and understand technology" Rhanar blankly admitted.

"So, who can wear what?" Jisha asked, Allisia looking through her character sheet.

"As far as I have spent my points, I can wear both full plate armour as well as a shield and sword" she pointed out, Narrisha handing out lists of both armour and weapons.

"Let's see; I go for a full suit of steel plate armour, helmet, sword and shield" Allisia wrote down in her equipment list.

"I go for a short bow, sword, leather armour, cloak and hood" Chinyi said, Minyoki looking over at her sister.

"Uhmm, you know that you have enough strength to use chainmail armour, right?" she asked, Chinyi grinning at her.

"I know, but leather feels better and isn't as noisy when you're sneaking" she pointed out, Minyoki giving her sister a thumbs up.

"I think I'll go for some tight black leather armour and some shortswords" Shica said, Jiraz grinning at her girlfriend; "what is it with you and tight suits?"

"Uhmm, I'm way more appealing, it's sexy and it offers good protection?" Shica teased back, Jiraz chuckling as she wrote down her own equipment; a black and red robe and shortsword.

"I guess I'll go for an elf Druid, then; power over nature sounds awesome" Minyoki commented, writing down a skimpy robe and gnarled staff from the items list to her character sheet.

After some time, everyone in the party was ready to move on to other items, at which Rhanar kept insisting that they brought enough water for their travels.

"Look, there's got be enough lakes or rivers to get water from, Rhanar; I doubt we need three bottles of it for each one of us" Allisia said, Rhanar settling down, not wishing to press his limits.

"OK, everyone set to go?" Narrisha asked.

"I think so; we just need to add the final items" Kiro said, Jiki making sure to write down a list of the whole group's shared items, such as logs, flint and tinder, tents and, most importantly of all, their potions.

"I've never really understood what those things are so good for" Minyoki shrugged, Rhanar nodding at her; "neither have I; I admit I prefer natural medicine."

"Let's see; we've got two mages, a cleric, a paladin, a druid, a battle-mage, warlock, a rogue and a warrior" Siriki noted down, making to write down the names of the players besides the classes.
