Jocelyn cringed when she heard the door slam. God, why didn’t I stop her?

Why did this happen? Why did I have to leave? Jocelyn ran as fast as she could from Jocelyn’s home, but little did she know she was being watch by a figure in a car close by.

"I knew she would chicken out." The girl shook her head in disgust.

"How can you tell she chickened out? She may have finished her task and then told her to leave."

"Very unlikely. If she had done the task, she would also have the guts to finish it and would have gone all the way with that girl." She now had her arms crossed staring at the trailer.

"So what do you plan to do now?" He had an inquiring look upon his face.

"Well, I knew that lil’ puss might chicken out, so I found a way to insure the plan would go through." She smirked at her own evilness. "I talked to JC yesterday at her house about the plan. While she went to go piss, I grabbed one of her teddy bears and slit its back open. Then I planted a camera into it and sat it beside her bed. The only thing better than pics is video." She chuckled a little at the thought.

"But how does that work? The camera would not have enough battery life or recording time to be able to have recorded until it now."

"You honestly think I wouldn’t have thought about that. I didn’t cut on the camera. I unlocked one of her windows and sent one of my boys to go cut on the thing right before they arrived." She smirked again.

"Wow, you really thought this out, didn’t you?" He shook his head with a dumbstruck look. "So how are you going to get the tape?"

"Hmp, easy. I am going to go get it right now, and I am going to tell that lil’ bitch exactly how I feel." She opened her car door and got out. "Stay here." She then slammed the door and headed for the house.

Jocelyn had now come out of the bathroom and was lying on the side of her bed. Fuck, Monday is going to be difficult. How am I going to explain to her why I made her leave?

Jocelyn looked toward the door when she heard it open. Is she back?

The leader came barging into the room. "Figures your lil’ pussy ass would back out."

"Please just leave me alone."

"I would love to, but no!" She walked over to the teddy and ripped out the camera.

"What the hell is that?" Jocelyn sat up to get a closer look at the item.

"This is my insurance to my plan. I figured I might have trouble with your ass." She gave Jocelyn a disgusted look.

"You were video taping us?!" Jocelyn was now in shock.

"Hell yeah, good thing too."

"Oh my God! Give me that!" Jocelyn tried to grab the camera from the older girl’s hands. She received a good smack in return.

"Are you honestly that fucking stupid? What did you think would happen? You decide not to hurt her and then she accepts you as her girlfriend with open arms." She gave her a questioning hard look.

"What, no. That’s not…" She looked down, not quite sure what to say.

"You haven’t thought it through have you? Even if she does decide to go along with this for the time being, how long do you honestly think it will last? She doesn’t love you. She likes the thought of you. A childhood friend that she found love with is all you are, but as soon as the flare dies down, what do you think will happen? She will dump you like a sack of potatoes that’s what. All it will take is some hot, young guy coming along to sweep her off her feet. It may just even take one of her friends finding out about you. She doesn’t want her friends to know about you because she has a perfect reputation to protect that doesn’t include an embarrassing freak like you. So tell me how long do you think it will last? How long before the little bitch goes back to boy town?"

"She is not like that." She heard the flatness and uncertainty in her own voice. She glued her eyes to the floor never looking up.

"Yes she is. After she left you when you were little, did she ever look back to remember you? No, she led her perfect fucking life. She became a lil’ snob who didn’t care about you. She probably would be ashamed to even be seen with you. She is at the top of the social chain and you are at the bottom. You two don’t belong in the same world. That girl has probably never been in a fight in her life. We fight for life. Let me ask you this, when you were in middle school and got into a fight that was over your head, who was the one there for you?" She pulled Jocelyn’s face up to look at her.

"You were." She said barely above a whisper with tears in her eyes.

"Well she sure as hell wasn’t. I was the one there for you. I am the one who has always looked out for you. I know what is good for you. So be a good lil’ bitch and don’t ever try to fight me again." She gave Jocelyn a good punch in the face, forcing Jocelyn back onto the bed. Then she stormed out of the house. Jocelyn just laid her head into the pillow and cried.

Monday at School:

Clair walked into the school with her head still heavy with thought. She had barely slept in the last two days. I need to talk to Jocelyn as soon as possible, but can I face her? Today is going to be awkward. Maybe I won’t see her today. I need more time to think.

Clair heard someone giggle. She turned to look at them. They were staring at her laughing. She shrugged it off and continued to walk.

She saw her team captain walking up to her with a few team members. She waved at them. They did nothing in return. They just glared at her instead.

"We have been trying to call you?" The captain said with a cold voice.

"Sorry, I have had a lot on my mind. Why did you need me?"

"Well as much as I ‘hate’ to say this, you are off the team."

Clair suddenly came to her senses. "What? Why?"

"Sluts aren’t allowed on the team." She huffed.

"What are you talking about?" She asked with a pleading look.

The girl held up her phone with the video on it. Clair looked at it and gasps.

"Oh my God! What is that?"

"That would be a video of you doing more than I ever wanted to see you do."

The girl closed her phone and walked off with the group.

Oh my god! What did Jocelyn do? Clair’s eyes started to tear up. She ran out of the building as fast as possible. She ran past the parking lot and down the street. She ran until she couldn’t feel anything and then some. When she finally stopped, she realized it would be quicker to walk home than go back to school. She had to walk her again for the second time in the past few days. She sighed.

"Hey pretty lady, why the long face?" A man had stopped beside her in his car and his passenger had rolled down the window to ask this question.

"I’m fine. It’s nothing." She replied while quickening her pace.

"It doesn’t look that way. Do you need a little man company to cheer you up?"

"No thanks." She quickened her pace as fast as she could without it being considered a run.

"What we not good enough for you? We saw the video. You’re a pretty easy little slut, aren’t ya?" Both men started to get out of the car.

Clair broke out into a run as fast as she could, but she was still tired from her earlier run and was easily caught.

The smaller guy put tape on her mouth, while the bigger guy held her still. He then tied up her hands and forced her into the nearest alley. He pushed her up against the wall and put a knife to her face. "Try anything funny and rape will be the least of your worries." He pushed her down to the ground.

"This is gonna be fun. He sat on top of her and ripped her shirt open. "Now where should we start?"

Jocelyn walked into the school. She was wearing sunglasses to hide the fact she had a black eye. I can’t believe she punched me. I hope none of my teachers make me take them off. She sighed. I need to find Clair I hope she is ok. She saw the cheerleaders close by.

"Any of you know where Clair is?" She asked while glaring at them.

"That little slut ran out the door a few minutes ago." She said while turning around to leave.

Lovely, now I have to try and catch up with her. Hopefully she is headed for home. Jocelyn ran out the door toward the path she figured Clair would have taken. She was in better shape than Clair, so she knew she could probably catch up to her.

She ran as long as she could, and then slowed down to a brisk walk. I hope she actually went this way. Jocelyn looked at an oddly parked car on the street. I can’t drive and I can park better than that. She rolled her eyes. Then she looked in the direction of the alley where she heard a rustling noise. She went to go see what the commotion was about.

She looked down the alley to see a man sit on top of Clair and pull her shirt open. She was mortified. She ran down the alley towards the man and Clair.

"What are you doing you son of a bitch?" She pushed the man off of Clair.

Another man knocked her down. "It is none of your fuckin’ business, but now it looks like my fun can begin early." The man tried to pin Jocelyn down.

Jocelyn reached up and punched the man. She knew she could hold her own. She and the man started to fight. The man was obviously losing. He retreated down the alley, but before Jocelyn could turn around to see where the other guy went. She felt an enormous pain in her back. The man had stabbed her. He pulled out his knife and followed after his buddy.

Jocelyn put a hand on her now gaping wound. She felt dizzy as she looked at the blood covered hand. She collapsed on her knees.

She heard Clair scream as Clair’s arms wrapped around her. She completely collapsed. She heard her names several times, but each one seemed further away. She slowly faded into unconsciousness.

Jocelyn opened her eyes. She heard the steady sound of beeping. Ouch, oh my God! My back is killing me. Where am I? She looked around the room. She saw her mom and dad resting on the sofa. Wow, they’re actually that close without fighting. She continued looking around the room. She laid her eyes on Clair’s sleeping form. Why is she here?

Jocelyn’s memories rushed back to her. Oh, I remember now. I hope she is ok.

Jocelyn laid her head back. She decided to wait patiently for the others to wake. She figured if she tried to wake them up or even speak for that matter, it might hurt. She wiggled her toes to ensure she could feel them. Well at least I’m not paralyzed.

Jocelyn’s mom was the first to wake. She looked over to see Jocelyn staring at the ceiling. She punched her ex-husband in the shoulder. "She is awake." The man woke up and both adults ran to Jocelyn.

"Honey, are you ok?" Her mother inquired.

"I am a little sore." She replied in a struggled voice.

"Oh my God! I am so glad." Her parents moved out of the way of an intruding nurse.

The nurse roughly opened both of her eyes and shined a light into each eye.

"She seems to be alright for now. I will get the doctor to check in on her a little later." She left as quickly as she had entered.

Jocelyn looked over to Clair.

"She has been here the entire time." Her father added to Jocelyn’s stare.

"How long have I been here?" Jocelyn was now carrying a worried look.

"Well honey, you have been asleep for six days."

"Are you serious?" Jocelyn’s eyes got wider. "Wow." That was all she could say.

"Wait. She has been her the entire time? She hasn’t left at all?" Jocelyn looked shocked.

"She hasn’t even left the room. Your father has been bringing her food. She said she wanted to be here when you woke up. Poor thing hasn’t slept over a few hours these past few days."

"Oh. Well shouldn’t you wake her?" Jocelyn stared at her mom.

"Well, I suppose so." Her mom got up and walked over to Clair.

She shook her softly and said, "Sweetie, Jocelyn is awake."

Clair snapped her eyes open and stared at Jocelyn. She let out a sigh of relief. "Thank God!" That was her only response. She stayed where she was though. Jocelyn’s mom returned to her side. Jocelyn could understand why Clair was still not sure about approaching her.

Over the next few days, doctors came and went and Jocelyn’s parents came and went slowly returning to there normal lives. Her parents had continued to come together to the hospital. Jocelyn started to notice that they were being awfully friendly with each other. Nothing like your child almost dying to bring you together. She laughed at this thought.

The only thing that didn’t change over the time was Clair. She never left the room and mostly stayed curled up in her chair. She would occasionally talk to Jocelyn, but for the most part she was quite.

Clair and Jocelyn were alone in the room one day when Clair walked over to Jocelyn’s bed.

"Thank you." Clair said with her eyes glued to the floor.

"Why?" Jocelyn replied while studying Clair’s face.

"You saved me." Her voice wavered.

"No I didn’t. It was my fault you were in that situation in the first place." Jocelyn looked away from Clair.

"Why did you record us?" Her voice was now teary.

"I didn’t, but does that matter?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that that video tape was there because I was stupid. I agreed to a plan to ruin your life when you first came here. That wasn’t exactly how it was supposed to go, but that whole night was a set up for it."

"It was a setup?!" She looked dumbfounded. "Did I ever really mean anything to you?"

"What the fuck does it matter? You would have dumped my ass regardless of what I had done. I was nothing but a fling and a lovely idea to you." Jocelyn had also begun to tear up.

"What the hell are you talking about? You meant a hell of a lot more to me than that. Do you honestly think I would be here right now if I didn’t care about you? Have you even thought about the fact that I have been here the entire time for you?" Her voice shook with angry sobs.

"I…" Jocelyn couldn’t say anything else. Her voice was already cracking,

"You haven’t have you? You don’t even care that I have been here for you. Forget you; I am out of here." Clair ran out the door sobbing.

Jocelyn laid there and cried until sleepiness over took her body.

Her parents questioned her about why Clair left, but all she could come up with is that she had to return to school. She started to notice that her parents had started to look at each other lovingly again. Soon they informed her that she would be returning to a new home. Along with this new home would be a new school. Maybe this is for the best. There are so many bad memories associated with that school.

Jocelyn was soon allowed to return home. Her father’s house was enormous. It was even bigger than Clair’s. Jocelyn settled into it nicely. She liked having her own room.

Jocelyn had mellowed out extremely. She stopped wearing earrings in places that weren’t her ears. She stopped wearing crazy hairdos and stopped trying to be a badass that stuck out. She still wore all black clothing, but she had actually started to enjoy wearing them. After a week of staying at this new house, she knew she had to return to school. She was actually looking forward to going to school in a new district. Maybe she would get a fresh start. She had decided to make friends that weren’t a bad influence on her.

Clair’s life had returned to normal. The hype about the tape died down and Clair was accepted back by her team and friends. She had decided to try and forget about Jocelyn. She thought it couldn’t be that hard because she had done it before, but love doesn’t work that way. Thoughts of Jocelyn constantly plagued her mind. After a week of Jocelyn not coming back to school, she decided t inquire about her. She was devastated when she figured out she had moved towns and schools. Maybe this is for the best. I think it is probably time I move on. Clair carried on with her school life.

Jocelyn started her new school. She actually made good friends really fast. She figured out that when she wasn’t being a bitch, people actually enjoyed being around her. This is nice; maybe I can forget it all.

Jocelyn and Clair both finished out their ninth grade year without any major problems. Life was going great for both of them. Clair had started to date a member of the male basketball team and Jocelyn had joined her basketball team. She discovered it was a great way to make friends and also that she was really good at it.

Maybe I can grow to love him. He is a really nice guy. This might actually be a nice summer, who knows maybe it could end with summer love.

Basketball has turned out to be a blast. I can’t believe I have so many friends now. I can’t wait to spend summer playing basketball and hanging with my friends.

Both girls eagerly awaited the beginning of summer, little did they know of how eventful the summer would be.
