Chapter 3

[Author's notes:

Second chapter to Heaven's Hell.

Finally some names and background information.

Her eyes fluttered open and almost immediately, she groaned in pain. She curled into a ball and slowly wrapped her arms around her stomach, but even that was hard due to her arms feeling like lead weights.

After a painful couple seconds, her mind started to create decipherable thoughts: Where am I? Her blurred vision started to become clearer, but she could still only see white. Damn… Must be in Heaven. Probably in a courtroom or something.

Her pointed ears then picked up a thumping sound nearby and her ‘fight or flight’ senses started to kick in once again. She sprung up, her body moving faster than her mind could comprehend and she started to dart for a nearby window when something suddenly clamped around her arm and held her in a tight grip. She started to struggle, but stopped when that ‘something’ started to speak.

“Quit squirming.” The voice was rough and commanding, but still had a hint of feminine in it.

The girl quit moving and looked up to see the same piercing red eyes she had right before she fell unconscious. Once again that weird pattern on her right cheek gained her attention. She didn’t have a long change to look, though, because the person holding her arm started to pull her back toward the place the demon had sprung up from, shoving her back on, “Stay in bed and get some rest.” It sounded more like an order then anything.

The girl rubbed her now sore arm, glaring up at the albino, “Who are you?” Her tail swung back and forth in an irritated manor.

“Person who saved your life.”

The girl looked the person up and down, noting that the woman was now out of her trench coat and in a pair of simple blue jeans and a white t-shirt. She smirked, “An angel saving a demon? That’s a first.”

The said angel made a noise, shrugging before holding out a cup of hot liquid to the demon, “Probably regret it later.”

The demon eyed the cup suspiciously before gingerly taking a hold of it, “What is it?”

“Tea.” When the ‘young’ demon didn’t take any, she continued, “It’s not poisoned.”

Purple eyes gave red ones a dull stare, “Oh yeah, because I can so believe your word, angel.” Sarcasm.

“Juri.”

“Huh?”

“Name’s Juri. Not ‘angel’.”

“Oh,” The demon trailed off, then sighed and rolled her eyes as the angel looked expectantly at her, “Victoria. Happy now?” She took her chances with the drink, taking a huge gulp then bringing the cup down. “Bleh.” She said, making a face.

“You shouldn’t be out in the streets,” The angel said suddenly, catching Victoria off guard. “Someone as young as you can still try to find a good path in life.” She continued in her monotone. She knew it was probably useless to tell this to a demon, but she could still try, right?

The raven-haired girl blinked, confused. Young? She looked down at herself and almost started to laugh at what she saw. I haven’t changed back! This angel must think I’m fifteen or something! “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” She shrugged, playing along with it. But why was she out there?

“Hey, albino,” The demon said, trying to get the angel’s attention. She did, but also got a glare. She tried hard not to snicker, God, I love ticking people off! “Why were you there that night? I don’t see how an angel would benefit from the Hunt.”

“The Hunt is said to be the only time the ruler of Hell comes out, rather, it’s the day once every four months that her reign is negated so everyone chases after her either wanting to kill her or trying to make their son or daughter into the next ruler,” The angel explained.

Victoria discreetly rolled her eyes. Yes, yes. I know about my own life, thank you very much.

“I was on the look out for the Queen of Hell, and slayed some demons that tried to attack me along the way. It’s the only lead I have for her.”

“Why’re you after her?” The demon asked.

Red eyes narrowed dangerously, “I was told she was the one who killed my parents when I was young.”

“Oh, so it’s a revenge thing—“ Victoria blinked, realizing something. Wait… I haven’t killed any angels recently. Juri doesn’t look to be any older than twenty-five at least and I haven’t killed any angels in that time frame. “Are you sure she’s the one who killed your parents?”

“Who else could it be?!” The angel’s voice finally broke from its monotone as the angel got exasperated. “She’s the leader of Hell and my parents were supposedly some of the strongest angels alive at their time! It had to have been her!”

Victoria frowned, That’s discrimination if I ever heard it… “And how were you going to find Her Highness?” She crossed her arms over her small chest.

“W-well,” The angel paused, thinking, “They say she’s the most hideous thing alive.”

Victoria’s eyebrow started to twitch, “What?” She growled, her tail swishing back and forth with the strength of a harsh whip. To say she was offended would be an understatement.

“’Her eyes glow red and evil radiates from her very being. Her hair is always tangled and she looks like a wild animal with razor-sharp claws sharp enough to rip your limb off at the mere touch.’” The angel quoted, not noticing the impending doom looming behind her.

ALRIGHT!” The demon roared, causing the angel to jump in surprise, “I get the point! She ain’t the prettiest thing in the world!” I’m going to fucking murder whoever came up with those rumors…

After the angel calmed down slightly, she turned back to the demon that was inwardly seething, “In any case, I didn’t find anything like that last night.”

OF COURSE YOU DIDN’T! The demon wanted to yell, but kept it all inside and simply nodded in acknowledgment. She then thought of something, “What do you do during the other one hundred and nineteen days that the Hunt isn’t happening?”

“I do detective work. I solve cases for anyone who’ll pay.” Victoria must have unknowingly made a face because the albino frowned slightly and continued, “What?”

“Not what I expected…” The demon ruler answered truthfully. “Wait, you said ‘anyone’, right? Does that include demons?”

The angel nodded.

“One last question,” The demon said. “If you’re a high ranking angel (which I guess from the quality of the swords), where’re your wings?”

Juri stared at Victoria blankly before getting up and heading for the door, “Get some rest.” She said, avoiding the question.

Victoria glared at the wooden door once it was closed behind the angel, “Oi! I asked you a question!” She called out, pouting. After a couple moments of no answer, she sighed and gave up glaring at the door.

She fell back onto the bed with white sheets, looking up at the white ceiling above her, “Damn, this woman needs to paint her apartment a different color.” She complained before turning to the window, seeing another apartment complex across the busy city street below.

“But still,” A smirk found it’s way onto her lips as her tail swung pleasantly, “I wouldn’t mind having an angel around to slay a couple of assassins off. I get a nice bed, free meals and a bodyguard if I can pull this off.” Her smirk turned into a smug grin as she started to formulate a plan in her head, “Alright, operation ‘Angel Bodyguard’ commence!”

[End notes:

I just noticed Juri's name is the same as that one person off that one Revolutionary Girl Utena anime... Oops. XP Didn't mean for that to happen. I just thought it sounded cool at the time. XD;;

Anyway, is it still a good story, or should I delete it?
