Chapter 9

Title: Final

Shay blew the candles out on her 21st Birthday cake, and everyone cheered.

“I’d like to thank my mum. I love you for everything you’ve done, including letting me have this party. My girl friend, Jo… thanks for putting up with me.” Shay paused, and her eyes widened. “Umm, and thank you all for bringing me presents, so, let’s party.” They all cheered

Shay walked to the back of the room in her mum’s flat. “Wow… look who it is.”

Lee smiled. “Happy birthday, Shay,” she said, and handed over a parcel.

Shay’s eyes moistened. “You didn’t come to my soccer final.”

“Yes, I know.”

“I was so angry.”

“I don’t doubt that, you always had a fiery streak in you.”

“So, why now? Just to give me a present?” she growled.

Lee smiled. “Don’t get snarly with me, Shay, just say thank you”

Shay smiled. “Thank you. So, you’ll stay for a drink, at least?”

Jo’s hands went around Shay’s waist, and a kiss was panted on her cheek.

“Honey… aren’t you going to introduce me?”

“Jo… this is a very old friend…. Lee.”

“Ouch, enough of the old. Hi, Jo.”

“Lee and I go way back, she was helping me out with a few personal issues.”

“Ok, but don’t forget that there are other people here as well.” She half-smiled at Lee then left them both

Lee laughed. “She doesn’t like me.”

“She gets a little insecure when she meets some of my friends.”

“Oh…. Well, she doesn’t have to worry about me. I’m no threat.”

“Lee Evans is always a threat.”

Lee laughed when Shay’s mum came over. “I’m going to talk to Lee for a bit, you go be with your friends, honey.”

Lee went into the kitchen and had a coffee with Shay’s mum.

“I didn’t think you were going to come.”

“I wasn’t, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t screw her up completely.”

“She’s turned out just fine. Now that you are here, I have all your money.”

“No… I told you, it was to help get you on your feet. The flat is yours, and I don’t want anything in return.”

“You’re a good person, Lee.”

Lee laughed. “No, I’m not, I’m actually a selfish bitch.”

“You keep telling yourself that, honey, but I know different.” The woman patted Lee’s hand affectionately.

Lee was headed towards the door when Shay caught up with her. “Leaving already? Typical. So, what’s with the limp? Did you hurt yourself dancing?”

Lee smiled. “Well, I’m a bit too old for this party. Happy birthday, Shay, enjoy the rest of your night.”

“Going home to bed already?” pushed Shay.

Lee nodded. “Exactly.”

“Why are you so lame? You would have jumped at the chance to give me a mouthful, put me back in my place, and now…”

“People change, grow up.”

“Bullshit, come on, there are some gorgeous women here, and you haven’t even tried. Fallen off the horse, have we? I can give you some pointers.”

Lee grinned. “I don’t need pointers from 21 year olds, they take pointers from me.”

Shay laughed. “See, there you go, stay and have a drink with one of your old…”

“No, Shayne. Goodbye.”

Lee tapped on her laptop and sent off the last email. Just as she got up, there was a knock at her door.

Lee opened the door. “No.” She tried to close the door again, but it was pushed open, and Shay came in.

Lee took a deep breath. “Shay… you shouldn’t be here.”

“You left your jacket behind.”

“Ok, thanks, see ya.”

“You can’t just blow me off, you don’t just walk back in my life after 6 years and then walk out again.”

Lee groaned. “I knew I shouldn’t have gone. Please, don’t go turning it into a big deal, Shay.”

“A big deal is you setting up my mum in a flat and money just to get me out of your life. Yeah, I know all about it,” she sneered

“Don’t be so dramatic, I did what I thought was best for you.”

“Bullshit, Lee only does what’s best for Lee, end story.”

“Well, you must know everything now you’re 21. A woman of the world these days, aren’t we, Shay?”

“Don’t you dare patronize me, I’m not a child anymore. So, come on. Tell me, I want to hear it from your mouth.”

Lee knew she was backed into a corner “Fine, if that’s what you want to hear, yeah, I did it to get you out of my fucking life, you were cramping my style. Ok, happy now? Why don’t you fuck off back to your friends.”

Shay’s eyes watered. “You had no idea did you, no fucking idea how I…”

“Yes, I know you loved me, Shay. That night in the club, the look on your face when you saw me.”

Shay shook her head.

“Shay, you were 15 years old, your hormones were all over the place. I was there. It was only natural that I was one you latched onto.”

“No… no…It wasn’t like that. You are so full of it, Lee. Did you ever stop to think for a moment that you may have felt something for me, too?”

Lee didn’t respond.

Shay moved closer. “You did stop and think.”

Lee dropped her eyes in submission at Shay’s question.

Shay moved closer. “And yet you let me go.”

“You were 15, what was I going to do with a 15 year old,” whimpered Lee.

Shay lowered her voice. “Admitted that you loved me.”

Lee half-laughed. “That was never going to happen. Now, I think you should go back to your party.”

Shay moved closer, standing a little taller than Lee. “You don’t mean that.”

Shay touched the side of Lee’s face and noticed a little scar under her chin. Lee pulled back, but Shay touched her chest.

“Your heart is racing, it likes it when I’m near.”

“Shay, its time you went home,” Lee pleaded.

Shay captured Lee’s lips and kissed her. “Your lips say they want me.”

Lee looked at her former lover, trying to hold back a grin. “You can tell all that, so tell me what I am thinking.”

Shay smirked. “Oh, that’s easy, you are thinking that now I’m all grown up, and wondering whether 4 fingers will fit.”

Lee was naked on her back, hips rising as Shay straddled her so their pussies where joined, their juices mixing. Shay gyrated, pushing their clits together. Lee grabbed Shay’s hips and pushed up harder as her orgasm was surfacing.

Shay cruelly stopped and pinned Lee down, her finger slightly trapping Lee’s clit.

“For fuck’s sake, Shay,” Lee yelled in frustration.

“Tell me….” She rubbed Lee once, but paused.

Lee looked hard. “You’re going to make me say it.”

“Yes, I want to hear it.”

Lee groaned and half sat. “Shay, it’s not going to change anything.”

Shay’s face darkened. “Fine, then I’ll let you have your orgasm and we can go back to just fucking.”

Lee closed her eyes and pulled Shay aside. “You don’t need to hold my orgasm as ransom. Yes, I love you. The day you left my apartment broke my fucking heart, but it was the right thing to do. I was not ready for a relationship, whether it was with you or anyone.”

“But you love me, you really mean it, right?” Shay pushed.

“I said it, didn’t I? You know I don’t say things unless I mean them.” Tears started falling from Lee once she had finally admitted her feelings, not just to Shay, but to herself.

Shay wiped the tears from Lee’s cheeks and kissed her tenderly, reassuring her. They continued to make love until the early hours of the morning.

Lee woke her younger lover. “Your phone keeps buzzing.”

Shay rolled over and kissed Lee. “I know. I was avoiding it. She’s probably really pissed at me”

“Hmmm, great, I still managed to screw you up, even after a 6 year absence.”

Shay cancelled the call. “Look, I love you, and I want to be with you. Why can’t you accept that?”

“I can, and if you were single, things would be different. Fuck, I’d have you moved in tomorrow, but…”

Shay picked up her phone. “Dumping her is just a phone call away.”

Lee angrily grabbed the phone and pinned Shay’s hand. “You can’t go and treat women like that, Shay. Jo deserves better, she deserves respect and the truth.”

“Wow, you have changed. What happened? Did you finally meet someone that fucked you over?”

“Yeah… I did.”

“Really, tell me I’m intrigued and I’d love to meet her.”

Lee grimaced. “Well, you can’t, and I mean it, because she’s a nasty, screwed up piece of work. It’s my fault, of course.”

“Lee, you are being rough on yourself.”

“Cody was just another girl I went out with a few times, but she wouldn’t leave me alone, no matter how much I pushed her away. I told her that I didn’t love her, that it was inconceivable that I would ever love someone like her.”

“Ouch! Jeez, Lee, you sure know how to let a girl down gently, that must have made her cry.”

“Yeah, she cried at first, Shay. Then, she took to my car with a baseball bat.”

Shay laughed. “Good for her.”

“Then, she took to me with it, and put me in hospital for 3 months. I have plates and screws in my arm and leg, and metal plate in the side of my head. She almost killed me. If Jules hadn’t come in at that moment…”

Shay looked at Lee in disbelief. “I didn’t know.”

“Well, now you do, so now you are in bed with a slightly crippled, contemptuous old woman.”

Shay laughed. “I was always in bed with a contemptuous old woman.”

After that, Shay moved permanently into Lee’s apartment and life. She put her stuff away while Lee sat on the couch watching TV.

Shay turned the TV off and sat on the little table in front of Lee, stealing a kiss. “I’m all moved in.”

“Yeah, I know, bummer,” Lee laughed.

“Well, now that I am living here, there are going to be some ground rules,” Shay said seriously.

Lee sat back. “Oh, this should be good,” she teased.

“While I’m living under this roof, you will give me your undivided attention.”

“Okay.”

“You don’t go to the club, ever... unless I am with you.”

Lee raised an eyebrow. “Hmm, fine.”

“And you’ll be 100 monogamous with me.”

“Ouch, what does that mean again?” Lee enquired playfully.

Shay pinched at Lee’s nipple ring. “You know damn well. You told me this morning in the shower that if I even look at another woman, it would be more than a baseball bat you’d chase me with. Well, that goes for you, too.”

Lee leaned forward, and they shared a kiss.

“I can live with those rules.”
