Chapter 5

Jordan was back into the school routine. Sally still hadn’t spoken to her, and she was trying hard to put that aside. Mary was her strength now and she needed that to keep her going.

Jordan sat in maths class, she hardly listened to Ms Sedgewick all lesson, didn’t even participate in quizzes. Everyone knew she was the smartest but she just couldn't be bothered with it. Jordan just kept her head down and scribbled poems into her schoolbook. The bell rang to end class.

“Remember there will be a test next week so make sure you study. Oh Jordan can I see you please.”

Jordan slowly made her way down to the front she wasn’t in the mood for any bantering.

“I noticed you were a little quiet, is everything alright?”

“Umm I’m fine, can I go now.”

“Ok Jordan.”

Jordan turns to leave.

“Oh hang on I heard about the little session between you and Ms Morton.”

“Yeh well good on ya.”

“You didn’t really expect to beat her did you.” said Ms Sedgewick with a wicked grin on her face.

Jordan frowned and shrugged her shoulders. “I have as good a chance as anyone I guess.”

Ms Sedgewick laughed. “I think you should check something out because I don’t think Ms Morton was entirely honest with you.” Her voice higher in pitch

“What do you mean.” Said Jordan not in the mood for riddles either.

Ms Sedgewick smile innocently “Go to the main foyer and look at the honour boards, you may find something of interest.”

Jordan left the room and Ms Sedgewick smiled turned into a laugh “See you cope with this Kelsie Morton.”

Jordan strolled into the foyer, not a place she regularly hangs out too many teachers in one place. She wandered around looking at the different school achievement boards. She comes across one for School Sporting Achievements and casually looks down the roll until her eyes fixed upon something. “I don’t believe it.” She growls.

Jordan strides to the library, she searches the aisles until she finds past yearbooks. She removes the one marked 1994, and quickly flicks the pages and stops on a particular page. It contained a picture of a student and underneath read College Champion and All States College Champion in Fencing Kelsie Morton.

Jordan clenched her teeth and ripped the page from the book “You son of a bitch” and tossed the book aside, she storms from the library.

Kelsie looked up from her marking and out the window. The rain was pelting down and she shivered.

“Think we will skip the run today.”

She returns to her marking when a window smashes and a projectile hits her desk and lands of the floor. Kelsie jumps up in surprise, she peers out the window only to see someone in a grey sweater with a hood on, but couldn’t make out who it was. The person then ran off towards the adjacent forest.

Kelsie picked up the projectile and something was wrapped around it. She took the elastic off and opened it up.

“ohh crap.” Groaned Kelsie. She looked back out the window but couldn’t see her, she was pretty sure it was Jordan. The paper was from the yearbook with a big red circle around her photo with writing “Fuck you”

Kelsie screws up the paper and grabbed her spray jacket and headed out into the forest. The rain had not eased and it was cold. Kelsie ran as carefully as she could as the ground had turned to mud and slush and very slippery. She looked around.

“Jordan c’mon let me explain.” There was no response. Kelsie continued to look around “Jordan where are you.” She yelled. She was then hit from the side and crashes to the ground, sliding through the mud. She looked up in shock. Jordan pounced on her again grabbing her jacked and pounding her into the ground.

“You fucking bitch you lied to me….I hate you.” Screamed Jordan

Kelsie fought back pushing Jordan off, she tried to get to her feet.

“Wait, just listen to me.” Panted Kelsie. Her body felt heavy from the mud.

Jordan tried unsuccessfully to get to her feet. “You fucked me over, I believed you and you lied.”

“I never lied to you Jordan.” Kelsie put her hand out to fend off any more attacks

“You said you never Fenced before.” Spat Jordan now on her feet

“I said I had picked up a sword, I didn’t see you cough up your experience either.”

“Bullshit, you knew and you tricked me.”

“Jordan there was no trick.” But Jordan launched at Kelsie again, but she was able to push Jordan away, however she lost her footing. Kelsie tries to turn over quickly and get up but Jordan slams on her back forcing her down.

“I thought you were different, but you’re like the rest you bitch.” Jordan pushes Kelsie further down into the mud.

Kelsie tries to struggle, her clothes too heavy from the mud and Jordan was too strong. She knew she was in serious trouble. Jordan was pissed off and wasn’t being rational. Kelsie throws her head back and hit Jordan in the face.

“OOOWW” cries Jordan

This was enough to distract and Kelsie pushed Jordan off and scrambled away trying to put as much distance as she could. She felt exhaust her arms ached and she for the first time felt scared of a student. She looked over at Jordan who still had her face in her hands.

“Oh christ.” Kelsie slides back to Jordan. “Let me see.” She told Jordan

“Bugger off.” Was Jordan’s reply

Kelsie forced Jordan’s hands away. Blood was oozing from the bottom of Jordan’s split lip.

“Oh shit Jordan I’m sorry, we better get that seen to.”

Kelsie tries to get her footing but falls flat on her back with a thump.

“Oh god that hurt.” Moaned Kelsie

The mood changed when Kelsie hears laughter. She sat up and looked in Jordan’s direction. Jordan was indeed laughing and pointing at her.

“You should see yourself, you look like a drowned rat.”

Kelsie looked down at herself, she was covered in thick black mud. She looks up at Jordan

“Well you’re no beauty queen yourself.” Kelsie shot back.

Jordan calm down laughing “You know what we look like Ms Morton?”

“Humor me, what.”

“Those girls who mud wrestle in those little bikinis.”

“oh really.” Kelsie amused

Jordan smirked “I had you.”

“You reckon.” Jibes Kelsie.

“Oh yeah you were begging.”

“So what you think they should have mud wrestling as one of the college sports events?”

Jordan gets up carefully “Now wouldn’t that be fun.”

Kelsie too stands carefully. “So you really think you can take me?”

“In a blink.” Coos Jordan

Kelsie takes her spray jacket off and her shirt leaving only a sport top. She didn’t want to be weighed down. “Well come on then, lets see what you got kid.”

Jordan raised her eyebrows at the challenge. “You serious.”

Kelsie nodded

Jordan took off her layers leaving leaving just her bra. The girls circled each other, the rain still not letting up. The thunder had now rolled in and the light was quickly disappearing.

“You’re gonna regret this Ms Morton.”

“You know you are all talk talk young Lange.”

Jordan lunges for Kelsie, but she moves out the way and only to end up on the ground again. Jordan pounces trying to pin Kelsie’s shoulders down, but she keeps wriggling, and eventually shoves Jordan off and attempts to get up again. Jordan grabs her leg and pulls her back down, quickly straddles her opponent and looks down in triumph.

Kelsie totally exhausted now lets her head fall back, she was finding it difficulty to breath with the cold air. She looks back at Jordan and notices a wicked look.

“Jordan.” She warns “What ever you’re thinking forget it.”

Jordan smiles then picks up a handful of mud.

“Don’t you damn well dare.” Seeing Jordan making no attempt to give it up Kelsie tries to struggle, but her arms were too sore.

“Jordan nooooo.”

Jordan smears the mud all over Kelsie body, under her top and down towards her pants. Kelsie grabs her hand.

“Ok ok you win, I give up, just stop please.” Begs Kelsie

Jordan finally stands and punches the air in victory. “The champion of mud wrestling is Jordan Lange….give it up for her.” Jordan commentates her own win.

The ground near them was hit by lightening causing both to scream. “Cmon let go.” Said Kelsie

Jordan grabs her stuff and started to leave, she looks around and sees Kelsie struggling. She walks over and offers her hand, Kelsie accepts it and is pulled to her feet.

"Thank you Jordan"

They made their way to the gym to use the showers. Kelsie turned on both showers.

“I don’t think the laundry ladies are going to be happy with us.” Comments Jordan

Kelsie walks straight into the shower fully clothed much to Jordan’s surprise. She turns and faces Jordan

“Well if we wash as much as the mud off it won’t be so bad.”

“Yeh why didn’t I think of that.”

“Ohh I dunno, maybe your brain has turned to mud now.” Kelsie laughs at her own joke.

They slowly peel off the layers as the mud disintegrates and wring out their clothes. Soon they were both naked and washing. Kelsie closed her eyes and lathered up her hair. Jordan glanced over to Kelsie, the water streaming off her body. She noticed Kelsie had a belly piecing and two tattoos. One was 2 symbols representing female side by side just below the waist and the other a dragon on her shoulder blade with a sword through its heart. Jordan felt a familiar sensation, she couldn’t shift her eyes from Ms Morton until she realized Ms Morton was looking back at her. She immediately diverted her eyes embarrassed at being caught.

Kelsie smiled but thought it best to leave now. She turns the shower off and grabs a towel to wrap around herself, she grabs another to dry her hair. She looked to Jordan who still wasn't meeting her gaze

“Jordan” called Kelsie but got no response.

“Hey champion mud wrestler.”

Jordan glanced over, feeling uneasy.

“My door is always open if you want to talk.”

Jordan confused “I didn’t think students were allowed in staff quarters.

“Jordan I mean that door.” And points to her office. Kelsie leaves through the door that leads to her living quarters.

Jordan whacks her head. “You idiot Jordan.”
