Chapter 1

Sighing Miki looked at the ring which encased her hand. A silent witness of the promise she made to Kobayashi.

There hasn’t been much the Megu-dan had done together lately and it was always without Megumi.

In fact, she didn’t have any contact with her since graduation.

Slowly getting worried she decided to call her house to satisfy her curiosity besides she wanted to see Megumi chat with her and have a little fun.

Strangely there wasn’t any response at the phone and even her call to Megumis cell phone was left unanswered.

Getting a bad feeling she decided to pay her friend’s house a visit in hope to find out why nobody answered the phone on a weekday.

Arriving in the early evening she got out from the car to talk to the security man over the video transmitter she was shocked to find that the security system had been shut down and was looking kind of neglected.

Even the small door beside the gate wasn’t locked like usual.

Miki was terrified had something happened was it Tamayada seeking revenge.

By now Miki was storming into the building leaving a shouting chauffeur behind.

Nearly running down the front door she was granted access by a servant she didn’t recognise who was also looking kind of exhausted like all life energy had been drawn from him.

Proceeding to the living room she instantly became aware of two things Megumis parents were kneeling before an altar two they also looked like life had left them a long time ago.

Miki became afraid, no terrified of what face she would see standing on the altar in a slight brown frame.

It was Megumis.

Miki felt all blood drain from her face as she realized the meaning of it all.

Megumi had died.

She died had left earth throwing the dwellers of the house in a dark pit of despair.

“How … how could this happen!”

Megumis father turned his head, a meek gesture that he had heard her.

“If you came by, Megumi told me to deliver a message to you.”

He rose, very slowly like he needed to be wary of falling down, to not come back up again and opened the altar.

From its inside he took letter bound with red thread and gave it to Miki.

“I think it is time to leave now.” she was reminded by the servant.

Leading her out of the house, not speaking any words he closed the doors behind Miki.

It rained. The rain came in small gentle drops; it was almost warm, like someone’s tears, like Mikis as they ran down her face her being unable to do anything more than breathing out and in short ragged breaths.

Hastily she fumbled open Megumis last message.

To my dearest princess,
If you are reading this, I am long gone, having died from a broken hearth.
I am not blaming you. Rather I wish that you will life a long happy life with Kobayashi-kun, him being your prince instead of me.
I am sorry I had to tell you like this.
I love you.
Megumi Amatsuka

The letter hit the ground before Miki.

All of her willpower had been broken she didn’t want to life anymore.
